Currently auditing what we do for #alevelmaths transition, from Y11 to Y12, at my school. I’m curious to hear what other schools do. Do you run an induction lesson? If so, what maths do you do in that induction lesson? What transition work do you set?

In #mathstoday I rolled out this classic SMILE activity in my Year 7 Maths lesson. Worked really well, although it never ceases to amaze me how slow some kids are at cutting out ✂️ 😴

In #mathstoday, I’ve tried something new when marking #coremaths mocks. To try & reduce the “where did I lose marks?” questions on the big Paper 1 mock questions, I’m trialling a sticker detailing what is needed for each mark, which I can tick as I go. Made estimation & tax/NI marking much easier 😁

These are a must for anyone teaching Core Maths!

Started the binomial expansion today with Year 12. Introduced it a different way to normal and it actually worked really well 😁 also started randomly assigning partners at the start of each lesson using playing cards - definitely recommend this for collaboration outside of friendship groups ♥️♠️♦️♣️

This book is fab! Even if you’ve been teaching A Level a while, you’ll still get so much from it 😁

In #mathstoday, inspired by @colinfoster77.bsky.social’s Mathematical Etudes, we’ve been combining mathematical thinking and fluency practice 😁 lots of rich conversations all round. Not bad for the last day of a very long term! 😴

We used the excellent start.sketchometry.org in y9 #MathsToday. This has come on so much since I last used it - gesture-based constructions, ideal on a phone or tablet.

In #mathstoday, my #coremaths students were examining misleading graphs - spotting errors & suggesting improvements.

While the small people are occupied in the soft play, it’s time to get to grips with next week’s @ncetm.bsky.social subject knowledge session for non-specialists. We’re hitting algebra 🥳 I ❤️ this programme and the confidence it helps our so, so valuable non-specialists develop #mathscpd

Slightly late but in #mathstoday (on Friday) I used double sided counters to introduce adding negatives to my Y7s and it was amazing. They loved it, I loved it. Never teaching directed number without them again. 🔴🟡

In #ALevelMaths today, our @ncetm.bsky.social GLOW Maths Hub workgroup planned, delivered and reflected on a lesson for my Year 13 group on modelling with trigonometry at North Bromsgrove High School. Pupils were brilliant, the participants enjoyed it, and all of us are now inspired from this!
