Why is it never a plot point on Sex and the City that Carrie apparently writes her column about everyone she dates and all of her friends’ partners? Like I’m sure at some point someone would have been like “hey what the hell Carrie”

Every time I witness how ready the French are to protest injustice, I think about how uncommon genuine protest is in the U.S., and how ironic it is that we aren't a protesting people—given that the country was founded in protest

I could've sworn the macarthur grant used to be $1 mil. either (1) it's a mandela effect thing, (2) shrinkflation is real, or (3) I am just dumb, and therefore quite unlikely to ever receive a "genius grant", and so I don't really need to worry too much about it

Every question on the "test" for my uni's online HR module is like: "Ken wants to begin his study. What should he do?" A) Go ahead and start testing experimental dangerous drugs on babies B) Threaten grievous harm to anyone who stands in his way C) Consult his IRB for guidance

I co-sign this. I have tons of other thoughts (happy to chat with anyone in DMs who's anxious), but the thing I'd say quickly is: there isn't one job market, there are like ten. And you need to figure out which market you're a fit for (which may change over time) and tailor your stuff accordingly.

sometimes i give people feedback on job market materials, and thought it might be useful to do a thread of some common feedback i find myself giving. just one guy's opinion (and one thing that can be frustrating about producing and getting feedback on these documents is that informed people *will*

new obsession is this youtube channel where this guy DJs productivity music while his friends read and work and stuff. it's decidedly anti-AI, pleasant to have in the background while working, and is surprisingly effective.

Just rewatched the Sex and the City episode wherein Carrie is *baffled* by the concept of bisexuality. I get that it was like 2002, but shes a sex writer!!! in New York City!!! And the episode’s resolution is that shes “too old for that” ???
