At some level, each of us who writes things lives in fear that one day someone will read it back to us and ask, “do you really mean that?”

TODAY: @milesklee.bsky.social celebrates a high point of cinema, that Orson Welles frozen peas commercial. Welles has "no cause to give even a microscopic fraction of a fuck about how the finished product will turn out. He insists on integrity anyway." flaminghydra.com/a-celebratio...

I think a lot about a post that I can't find that takes aim at the genre of jokes about x, y or z soundtrack composer and how they "didn't have to go that hard" for some silly movie. The post is like "yes they did? they care about their job? they want to make good work?"

Cannot even begin to explain how many lines from Frozen Peas have become go-to non sequiturs: "C'mon boys you're losing your heads." "YOUR FRIEND" "That's just idiotic, if you'll forgive me my saying so." "UNREWARDING" "You don't know what I'm up against."

hahahahaha "The judge hearing the antitrust case seeking to block the Paramount–Warner Bros. merger has scheduled the trial for March 2027. The scheduling matters a lot to Paramount, which will begin paying Warner Bros. shareholders $7 million a day on Sept. 30 until the deal is complete."

This just might be the most psychotic act of sexual harassment I’ve ever seen. Not the worst per se, or most menacing but in terms of sheer insanity it’s really up there.

So many people my age can quote so much of this verbatim. Many of them have no idea where it's originally from or who Orson Welles is. I love how Warner Brothers cartoons historically don't care if you're too young for the reference.

"Is there time? Death doesn’t scare me as much as remembering that there will be a last of everything. There will be a last July." i think about this very thing all the time! not july, but the last whatever when will you know it is the last time?

A recording so iconic it’s been part of comedy lore for decades, here’s John Candy as Orson Welles referencing it in an SCTV sketch from 1981. “You people are pests, no money is worth this.” youtu.be/ZrNIFFl8Mao?...

this is an interesting interview and if i were clipping it for social media i would have excerpted "We're still a place where we don't downrank links. We love sending traffic to people. We send two million clicks a day to publishers" rather than the part that'll just piss people off lol

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

really like the idea of a movie series where some psychopath picks it up every decade or two & directs the most over the top film screenable around a singularly unhinged lead performance. praying it never becomes prestige tv
