GitHub Copilot Business, Claude Teams, ChatGPT business, ... All these AI management portals are a big hot mess. Overwhelming, underwhelming, scattered, unclear, wrong at times, barely usable most of the time. Almost as if they were vibe coded too hastily ':D

Organizing INFI-CON at @infi.nl today and the vibes at the office are off the chart :D Modded roomba's driving around, bicycles and mannequins, Winamp-style visualizers being tested.... 🤯😁 - and we haven't even started yet!

Absolutely insane that Claude makes me choose between (a) login with Google (I certainly don't want Google to be able to rug-pull access to all sorts of platforms), or (b) an email based login flow (with emails that arrive less than 10% of the time).

This is going to be an awesome event - Utrecht's such a great city, the tech scene in the Netherlands is excellent, and I'll be telling y'all the story of how a joke language based on Bon Jovi songs became a tour de force of modern software engineering.

Our INFI-CON 2026 (June 11th) keynote is by none other than @dylanbeatt.ie, titled "How To Be a Rockstar Developer"! (Keynote will be in English, other presentations are a mix of Dutch and English.) - About Technology, but there might be actual rock involved!

Visual for a keynote, with text "INFI-CON 2026", and "UTRECHT | DO 11 JUNI, vanaf 13:00" followed by "Dylan Beattie (Keynote) - How to be a rockstar developer".

Farewell ConEmu! <3 You've been a great help for the past 10ish years, but the built in Terminal on the Windows machines I still have (for now :D) seems good enough to be back at 'stock' tooling.

I like this new "minimum release age" feature in all package managers. But... once everyone will be using it, who will then feel out the supply chain attacks? 🤔😅 Or are there enough security scanners around to find things in an automated fashion?

Had a ton of fun today rapid prototyping useful but throwaway code in a mini-game codebase! I knew far too little Rust to hand-craft things, and GenAI enabled prototyping pretty complex features very quickly. :D

In almost all queries to LLM's I will start with: "Anno <month+year>, ..... <actual query here>." Plus, my custom instructions tell it to lead in answers with its knowledge cutoff point. That way it'll realize in time that searching for up to date info is needed for a proper answer.

The "SKILLS" stuff may have been "standardized" but not all tools follow it equally. I'm sure it'll even out soon enough, but for now having different tools on different machines can be a hassle!

Using Teams at a client, when usually using Slack, is... a learning experience ':D For every 9 features where Slack's superior, there's 1 where Teams takes the win. (And they are nearly never on par with each other.)

The best "solution" to stop Gemini from inlining YouTube tutorials at the end of answers is seemingly a custom instruction to always replace the video URL with the rickroll URL. 🫠

Tiny teaser for the #AdventOfCode survey results that are coming up this weekend! I'm *amazed* at how stable the main results for "Reasons to participate" are. For 8 years in a row every answer gets picked roughly by the same % of people! 😲 Somehow I'd expected at least *some* fluctuations!

Colorful bar chart showing series for 2018 through 2025, and clustered bars for those series. Each cluster remains stable at the same height with minor fluctuations. Categories like "For fun" and "For a challenge"

Already had a strong dislike for Claude's email-sign-in-only setup (just gimme username + password + totp, will ya!?), and now that I want to try something we can see why.... "We have trouble delivering mail to some providers, check your spam or try again later!" Right.

Using [company]@[mydomain.nl] for accounts is a fantastic first line of defense against phishing and its likes. E.g. receiving a "Bank Trouble" email on my "LinkedIn" email address immediately puts me on guard. I can almost always disregard "From" when receiving mail, and look at the "To" field.

Thanks to @was.tl we are enjoying #AdventOfCode again in 2025, and I am also running the unofficial/community survey again in 2025! 😊 💡 Take care that it closes "early", late Dec 12th or thereabouts! Consider filling it out if you haven't already: forms.gle/TAgtXYskwDXD...
