Why a map like this isn't readily available from @amtrak.com is pretty crazy.
I've built a map displaying where on the Amtrak network you can take your bike, line-by-line and station-by-station. This data isn't available anywhere else, check out where you can go! amtrak-bike-map.transittools.dev
There's a trend in intersection design it seems that puts a median between left turns and thru movements, and sometimes offsets the left turns so there is a small or no median between them and the opposing thru traffic. It's an evolution of the positive offset left turn. But is it good?
New episode up! We talk with transit planner Jarrett Walker, author of the recently reissued classic Human Transit, about why buses are so great, how we can make them better, & how advocates should fight for public transit in a hostile federal funding environment. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/h...
Maquoketa Caves were pretty darn cool. Dont sleep on Eastern Iowa.
Bike lanes and crosswalk markings in Clinton, IA...and a really cool Dambo troll.

Last night I spent an embarrasingly pong amount of time trying to figure out this faucet at the Cardinal Bar.
The default North American traffic signal operation seems to be to do as much as possible to not stop "mainline" phases regardless if traffic is there or not. Over-use of coordination, long delays on detectors, over-reliance on permissive turns.
We arent getting that train (again) are we?
NEW: Wisconsin Dem primary candidate for governor David Crowley maintained an old burner account on Twitter called ‘Dirt McGirk,' filled with incendiary posts about women, race, and derogatory LGBTQ references. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...
Last time Madison almost got a train Republucans swooped in with a terrible governor...Im worried we're going to repeat this seties of events again.
I want a historically accurate Star Wars. I feel like we are filling in a lot of details with questionable "facts"
JUST IN: Elon Musk says Grok will make a "full-length movie" of The Odyssey that is "historically accurate" by the end of this year.

Two long cycles of University & University Bay. Pedestrian overlaps help keep crossing dealy diwn in the east crosswalk, and phase insertion helps keep WB bus delay down. In the secind cycle a WB bus uses phase 11 (after WBLT+WB and before the side street) to proceed. youtu.be/l2tx5zIDt1o?...
We waited 76" to get our green crossing WB at Anderson & Wright. Not even the longest wait. Counting all NBLT, NB, SB, and EBLT (all conflicting phases) guess how many total vehicles went by? 32.
Games tonight at Forward Super Lucky Box Hansa Teutonica (not shown) Lewis and Clark
New bike count station, and calling detector incoming at Blair - John Nolen - Williamson - Wilson (aka the Hairball).
During our annual railroad crossing inspection, we added a third WB transit queue jump phase to University & Farley. This reduces worst case scenario signal delay from about 90" to 44"! Phase insertion is powerful! youtube.com/shorts/EVfl0...
Lessons learned from BRT...it is an iterative process that you simply cant throw money at once and say "I have TSP now". Much like every traffic signal system. Also, I cant shut up about TSP.
I think terrace trees should take far more priority than median trees, even if that means mature trees get removed. Ped/bike comfort needs to be more important than aesthetics. We end up living with these designs for 40+ years. That's is my street design/climate disaster hot take.
Thank you for everything, Sam Neill. Truly a fearlessly singular performer who gave us fans so much. 🖤
Sean Duffy has to go down as the worst transportstion secretary right? These were on the list because they were PROVEN not hypothesized.
FHWA’s Proven Safety Countermeasures website continues to say that there are "28 countermeasures and strategies effective in reducing roadway fatalities & serious injuries"... but they now only list 23. MIA are the following 5 related to Speed Management, Bicyclists, & Road Diets...

The power of phase insertion! The bus phase will always be the next phase with this sequence! My favorite TSP strategy when you have to make a protected/exclusive movement is phase insertion!
I just watched Hundreds of Beavers...and put that up there with Escanaba in da Moonlight on my Mount Rushmore of cinema.
