SFF nerd in Berlin. I should be writing.

I am very excited to do a panel on this topic with Natasha, whose books I've loved for years! This should be a great online convention if you're into queer SFF.

Just made my own pesto! I bet most people don’t know that with just a little effort, a bunch of ingredients that cost more bought separately than together, and SO MUCH CLEANUP, you can make something only slightly worse than you would buy in a jar at the supermarket. And it’ll go off quicker, too 💖

This is FANTASTIC. The rhythm, the alliteration! I don’t think I’ve ever read a translation that feels this lively. I very much think we should be translating old texts into colloquial speech—a lot of translators have too much respect for the text and not enough for the story.

Have you read Beowulf? No you haven't. And especially not like this. Well, you fucking should. Or anyway the fight between Beowulf and Grendel, which is short enough that you'd get through it. @sesquiotic.bsky.social brings it to you. stronglang.wordpress.com/2026/05/19/w...

My Zeide took one look at 2026 and decided it wasn’t for him, so this week has been a lot of travelling, funeral prep and attendance, and starting to sort through his things. I really appreciate this lovely tribute written by his friend Kate Thompson: katethompsonauthor.substack.com/p/farewell-h...

Farewell Henry. The last boy to board the Kindertransport.

It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of my friend Henry Glanz.
