This is pretty much how we got my mom to stop driving. We told her a family member needed her car.
If this country was truly "pro-life", we would have universal healthcare.
We did something similar with my dad. My brother’s family adopted a daughter and she was his favorite. We indicated she could use the car. He was thrilled at the solution. Grandparents will do anything for their grandchildren.
