Compact shelving is also one of the highest structural loads you encounter outside of industry, and has the extra requirements of extra stiffness and flatness. This is one reason major archives have moved to very tall mobile shelves on slab on grade.

As Brian Anderson says in this piece, applying BEPS only to larger buildings is essentially a penalty on denser, more efficient living. Most of these projects will eventually pay for themselves but we need to have policies that align with a holistic sustainability approach.

This is why I almost always spec mortar pigmented a shade darker than the brick. It doesn’t have to match the brick in hue but it looks way better when the luminosity is just slightly darker.

I also second @bgoldst.bsky.social's comment here: “The best airports have specificity and speak to you of the place where you are. The DC region has a lot of personality and placeness but the renderings have ignored those aspects." Saarinen's elements have a VIBE that shouldn't be tossed aside.

My 4y/o niece has been going to a camp with an adventure playground. The most recent photos I got are of her assembling black pipes while wearing a shift dress. Filthy from head to toe. A haunted look in her eyes. Living her best Victorian life. Waifmaxxing.
Interesting color culture moment here: blue means “down” and red means “up” for stock exchanges in countries influenced by Chinese culture. Better for colorblindness too, since they are opponent colors
