@bradwrench.bsky.social As long as we're talking about cars (???), here's a 12-yr-old photo of my '07 Vibe. It doesn't look this nice now 🙄 but runs great. 160k-ish miles, 5-speed manual. A hoot to drive when I rev to 5k + in lower gears. Bypassed AC compressor with shorter belt. Magical smoothness.

VETTE SHOP 08/04/2026 Amazing day with my Corvette guy. New axle shafts, sway bar end links, horn, & transmission fluid in just 3 hours. If he likes you, he invites you to pull up a chair & watch him work. There's a "F**K TRUMP" banner on the back wall. If you know the location, shut up. 😎

Lived 90 miles away on the very rural Eastern Shore of MD from '75-'99. My late wife and I went many times to Kennedy Center events: symphony orchestra concerts, pianists, ballet, operas... It was such a joy. This is like being attacked by invading barbarians. A travesty. Spitting in our faces.

"It is obvious that the Kennedy Center is being gutted. While everyone is being distracted by the drama of the removal of the name and the tarp cover-up, the interior is quietly being gutted and readied for some sort of renovation or just plain demolition." open.substack.com/pub/mbmatthe...

Used to bitch about "darkest West Texas" & mean it, but I'm all better now, 'less we're talkin' 'bout preachers. Arrived in Abilene as AF brat in '58, moved away '62. Cried hard when Buddy died, etc. etc. But this captures the essence of the good side of life then where the wind always blows.

Traces of Texas reader Peggy Summers was so nice as to send in this DYNAMITE 1950s photo of Eddie Burger in Midland, Texas. Peggy's husband's parents owned the place. Root beer is 5 cents or 10 cents and parfait root beers are 15 cents and 30 cents. I'll bet those parfait root beers were tasty!

I feel so much better. Not bitching any more about unsourced "news," but I'll never repost or believe it again. Life is too short & sanity too valuable. Corollary of this is I can go outside and play. Wow, that was easy. 🤣

WOW, new finds from the Ice Age! Two absolutely stunning Ice Age figurines from the Swabian Jura were found, dating back around 40,000 years. The tiny carvings, about the size of a thumbnail, depict two birds, rendered with remarkable attention to detail. Snow grouse, buzzard, or...🧵1/2

A close-up photo of the two tiny figurines.
