the company tells me that they're basically having to get into the real estate business because landlords have decided it's more profitable to have a big box store than a used bookstore. so they do a lot of shuffling and are very careful about how they expand:

A chain that believes in selling used books, movies, vinyl and more at, well, "half price," can only pay so much in rent, resulting in a shuffle of locations. In January, Half Price bought a building in Austin and announced it would move its South Lamar location to the new property. Thomas said that similar moves have happened in San Antonio and Pittsburgh. Half Price has begun buying properties in full when it can and paying in cash to avoid being kicked out of strip malls and developments it operates in. The company is in a good place, Thomas said, and is debt-free. Half Price's business mantra, she said, is that "we don't do anything we can't afford." "If we got to the point to save the company, we'd sell the buildings, we'd sell real estate because we would not close the company down," Thomas said. "It's guaranteeing the company's success by giving us some tangible assets and kind of controlling our own destiny."

A Shiny app to visualise and define Bayesian priors for common nonlinear functions in biology: growth responses to nutrients, light, temperature, and toxins. Lognormal priors are often a good choice but are horribly unintuitive. So I made this to visualise them and the curves that arise from them.
