Gill: All 100 senators last week passed a non-binding resolution condemning any pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell. They're simultaneously considering confirming the guy who met with her and moved her to a low-security facility as the top cop in the United States. That is so insane to me.

Max Miller released audio recordings of conversations he has with his ex wife. In one of them, she accuses him of clandestinely recording their conversations. “I have never recorded our conversations” he says, while recording their conversation. This is domestic violence. Ask me how I know.

I literally just recorded a pod -- out next Friday -- on, among other things, why this is an utterly daft idea.

A nuclear deal for the Saudis. A media blackout for Kushner’s corruption.
On Wednesday, the Trump administration signed a 30-year nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia that paves the way for the kingdom to enrich its own uranium.

I hope that, someday, I’ll get to pack for traveling like a man. No getting the house clean, laundry done and put away, guest room readied, all supplies for taking care of pets and wild birds stocked, reminders about medicines & DVM for the pets…just getting my own suitcase packed.

This particular criminalization of parental poverty, used to disproportionately pathologize Black women and steal their children, is called Jane Crow. And it's proliferating because of deliberately cruel, punitive administrative policies like what's happening to SNAP and Medicaid.
When families can’t eat, on top of everything else, the risk increases of the state stepping in to remove their children because of “neglect”
I think one of the hardest lessons of my life (Gen Jones-er) is learning that government exists, not to protect its citizens, but to protect businesses. And then they use crafty rhetoric to conceal it.

The best way to get to the bottom of the McConnell question is for the governor to appoint a replacement. The GOP legislature passed a law stripping him of that power, but it goes against the state constitution. If they refuse to seat the replacement, take them to court. There’s zero downside.
This “New Liberalism” conference is very interesting. But the donors behind it are right-wing libertarians. Why? They aim to drag “liberals” to the right. And here Allen just says it. “Liberal” means… halfway between libertarians (a fringe) and a labor union.
Allen asks an interesting question: is there a supermajority coalition that could fight illiberalism that could include both libertarians and the American Federation of Teachers?
😢 Also, we used to be able to plan summer vacations without worrying much about large wild fires. It’s not that they never happened, but it was the exception. We don’t plan travels like we used to because large fires have become so widespread. Climate change is a threat multiplier.
We are given only a limited number of truly perfect summer days in our time on Earth. One of the more insidious cruelties of fossil fuel greed is how it slowly strips those days from us, more and more throughout our lifetimes, perhaps without us even realizing what we have lost.
Oil companies are projected to see big profits in Q2 from higher oil prices linked to the Iran war... Now calls for a U.S. windfall oil tax are growing. This tax - @whitehouse.senate.gov tells @npr.org - wouldn't have the same issues the windfall oil tax in '80s had 🛢️👀 More ⬇️ only on @npr.org 🎧📻🛢️
Oil companies are making billions. In the U.S., calls to tax their windfall are growing
Higher oil prices since the Iran war began mean many oil companies have brought in excess profits. Some U.S. lawmakers want to tax those windfall profits and give the money to lower-income Americans.
