What a week at #IUSSI2026 in Freiburg! So good to see old friends and colleagues, and a big one for our young lab: our first #IUSSI congress contributions. And Anna Müller, our joint MSc student with @etf1989.bsky.social, won the best student talk award for her thesis work on wound care in bees! 🏆🐝

Exciting work showcasing the power of the bee model to reveal how microbial interactions can shape complex cognitive traits. Thanks Amélie for having me on board!
Really happy to see our paper finally published in PNAS 🎉 We used honey bees to study how gut microbiota shape cognition and found that learning benefits only appear when the full microbial community is present — not with individual bacterial species alone. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
My colleagues in the Liberti Lab are running our latest tracking experiment to understand how the gut microbiota influences animal behavior using honeybees. You can watch the live stream here: geneva.tuleu.science/host/palaven... 🐝🧪 @joanitoliberti.bsky.social
Charles Darwin comes back to life to wish Sir David Attenborough a happy 100th birthday. Our 3.5-min film from the LANE (University of Geneva) celebrates "the man who helped the world fall in love with nature". Happy #AttenboroughDay ! #bbc @biology-unige.bsky.social

MSc student Paula Tajada Lostao gave a fantastic talk today about her gut-brain axis work in honeybees and fruit flies at #Biology26. We are proud of you!
A big thank you to Pascal Crétard and the Société Genevoise d’Apiculture for inviting me to give a talk about our research, and for all the support during our first experimental season with bees 🐝💛
Our first honeybee experiment is up and running! Proud of my team for their hard work to set up the lab over the past months. Ten months in and we have a functional lab, cutting-edge bee tracking systems, and SNSF funding. Importantly, we are having a good time despite the workload.
There are still a few days left to apply. If you are interested, send a single PDF file by May 25th. Please check the link for further details.
A PhD position is available in my lab at the University of Geneva to explore the interaction between gut microbes and behavior in social bees. Please share with potential candidates. Application deadline: May 25th. More info and how to apply: tinyurl.com/PhDmgbee
