Tapinoma magnum is a Mediterranean native that has been spreading northward in Europe as a noxious invasive, outcompeting locally native species. I was able to photograph a laboratory colony in Freiburg this week. Ths species is polymorphic in the worker caste.
The first half of the #IUSSI26 was buzzing! So much science, discussion, debates, and ideas exchange - but the most important friendly chats and coffees while brewing new collaboration. This event turned out to be a great celebration of science and international collaboration 🐝🐜👏

Our new paper is out in Frontiers in Zoology on the molecular basis of parental care. We show that in the burying beetle Nicrophorus vespilloides, extensive molecular reprogramming already occurs before offspring hatch. Congrats to Julius! #Nicrophorus

This is a first: 2 manuscripts I co-authored were accepted in one day, and 3 in total in April. Might sound like a brag but all manuscripts have been in the works forever, with quite a few rejections.
