Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social · 2y agoThere’s a sort of Trump apologist, a relatively small but loud subset, who probably don’t realize or intend to be, but are so attached to a previous hyperbolic claim that they deny anything important changed. -US was already an oligarchy -US was already fascist -Biden gave Israel a blank check -Etc
As democracy collapses around our ears I’m not advocating a retreat into illusion, in spite of what this poem might suggest. Hugely grateful to @thelondonmagazine.bsky.social for publishing the first of my Chekhov poems in their Feb/March edition thelondonmagazine.org/product/curr...

I read and love lots of contemporary poetry. But few poems engage me the way Victoria Spires' contribution to @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social's #toptweettuesday has this week. Not since @jobratten.bsky.social's 'Sunset Over Watford' (in wave four of @iambapoet.com) has an urban poem hit me this hard.
I grew up without a TV so reading obsessively for pleasure is in my bones but in the past decade I’ve lost the ability to do it (for all the usual reasons). Thanks to 19C sensation novels I’ve spent the last weeks staying up way too late to read the next chapter, and the next, and the next…
