Weekend reading: @parlcharlie.bsky.social’s Unparliamentary: Tales from Canada’s Parliamentary Past. It’s full of great stories and it’s often fun. I haven’t enjoyed a political book like this in a while.

This was a bizarre situation at the end of the public hearing, but this is a bit of over the top grandstanding about police investigations and protecting democracy. The city's rules around public hearings allows literally anyone to call in. Last night people abused the system. That's all.

I think I'm the last one who watches the 6pm CBC News here in Vancouver, because a couple of times this week they've done something really annoying. When the five-day weather forecast comes up, there isn't enough time before they also put the anchor up, so we can't see tomorrow's weather.

When I was a kid, I thought the Urban Peasant James Barber was also the old guy in Jurassic Park.

And Sim's like this when answering friendly questions. It's baffling for somebody who's run for mayor twice now. He seems undisciplined, unable or unwilling to get the needed advice from the city's vast communications department, or his own, as he has his own vast resources.

If the Vancouver police can’t explain why they need an extra $200,000 a week on top of their $497 million budget to police five blocks of car free activities, then I can make videos pointing out how much that works out to every hour for every block. We’ll update if they provide more information.

I'm sad to note the retirement of Lisa Christiansen from the CBC. I doubt we’ll never hear from her again, but her leave-taking from the public broadcaster ought to be acknowledged because of what she brought to the role that she filled whether on the radio or television.

I’m at Lawrence Books on 41st and Dunbar and figured as I had just over an hour, I could browse at a leisurely pace. I was in and out in thirty-five minutes with a nice stack of books. I even went to the Save on Foods to buy a bag to take them home in.

I had to do a doubletake when I heard Lien Yeung say to the proprietor of PiDGiN, who's part of that food court at Oakridge: "And this is nothing like the Downtown Eastside, my friend. How does it feel to be opening in a place like this, where you know, luxury is the name of the game?"

I was sorry to learn just now that Alan Bradley has died at the age of 87. He was seventy years old when he published The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, that became a bestseller and garnered much critical acclaim.
