Over 30k premises without power now as wind still gusts over 90kmh in South. No official stations have reported gusts above yellow warning but with trees still in leaf cover the impacts are bigger this time of year. Very mild evening up to 19c, wind will ease tonight but more heavy rain in East.

El Niño strengthening into unseen territory. The Niño3.4 region just reached a +3.0 °C anomaly (relative to the 1991–2020). Such a warmth has never been observed in September, and it's only a few hundredths of a degree away from the 2015 all-time record.

Over the weekend, a storm in the Baltic states caused significant disruption to power supplies and at least 2 deaths. An experimental reanalysis-based attribution approach suggests that ~20% more rain fell than if the same weather pattern had occurred in a world that was 1°C cooler.

When looking at the full global picture it becomes obvious that we are now living in a much changed climate. In summer 1976, north-west Europe was a lonely hot spot in a sea of cooler temperatures. In summer 2025, the world is bright red. The climate is unrecognisable compared to 50 years ago.
