Pet peeve: multiple trailers being released for a movie! Are they worried we'll forget about it? Just release one trailer, keep it under 2 minutes or you're just spoiling it, and make it a good one! I don't want 4 trailers, each 3 minutes long. Just give me one good trailer leaving me intrigued.

When you take an evidence-based approach to AI-assisted and agentic software development, a picture emerges. It doesn't serve the narrative the bubble's been built on. But for the tiny % who care what's probably real and what actually works... codemanship.wordpress.com/2026/08/12/a...
AI Software Development – What Does The Data Say?
I’m currently pulling together a bunch of sources – that are mostly recent – on the topic of LLMs and their use in software development. Some are peer-reviewed studies. Some are i…

🔥 New blog post: Dark mode toggles that expose three states (system, light, dark) seem like the best option. Until you think about user goals, that is. Before rushing to disagree, hear me out. lea.verou.me/blog/2026/da... PS: As a data point, @jakearchibald.com was converted after reading this 😅
Dark mode toggles: two states are enough • Lea Verou
Yes, the underlying model must have three states, but one is always irrelevant to the actual user goal. Users do not seek out solutions to problems they don’t currently have. A lot of the hate towards...

I've always admired Ruby and it's community from afar, which is why I think it's sad and infuriating that bad actors are at the center of it all. po-ru.com/2026/07/29/i...
It doesn’t matter whether “Matz is nice”
I’ve met Matz once, I think, at EuRuKo in Krakow in 2010. We chatted briefly in Japanese. He seemed nice, but also quiet and reserved. At the time, he didn’t speak much English; perhaps he could speak...

For all the replies saying "but public transit is terrible, I have to wait an hour for the bus"... comrade, what you are suffering from is the *absence* of public transit.

"AI/LLMs are the perfect tool for the capitalist because it doesn’t matter if it works; it threatens the workforce either way. Both of these scenarios result in the same outcome: reduced worker solidarity, reduced worker skill, and reduced worker wages. " henry.codes/writing/it-d...
It doesn’t matter if it works
Ultimately, whether LLMs "work" as a technology or not doesn't matter. The widespread adoption and deployment should be regarded firstly as a threat to the labor force.

He makes some good points. I also had high hopes for Deno and I love the built in tooling, but where's it going? hackers.pub/@hongminhee/...
I wish Deno would keep doing what it does best
Deno emerged as a solution to the overwhelming configuration requirements of the modern TypeScript ecosystem by offering a zero-config, single-binary experience. By integrating essential tools for for...

It's very cool that we are still exploring and revising what we know about things!
For 150 years, paleontologists assumed that the first vertebrates to leave the sea for land evolved a tadpole phase, similar to modern frogs. Immaculately-preserved fossils disprove that, scientists say.
They are clearly experimenting with their coming album, and I like it. This is fresh! youtu.be/tPddc0R5J_Q?...

A court in Munich declared that Google is liable for their "AI summaries" and all its hallucinations. This brings "AI" slop in line with all other products: "AI" is basically the only product where a provider can deliver unchecked garbage and put all liability on the consumer.
Landmark German ruling declares Google's AI Overviews are Google's own words and makes it liable for false answers
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previous limited liability protections for search engine operators don't apply to AI overviews. In this case, Google's AI had falsely linked two publishers to fraud and made claims that didn't appear in any of the linked sources. The ruling could set a precedent for AI-generated content liability worldwide.

We keep hurting our own for no good reason.
Heartbreaking. And a wake-up call. It is no longer about being difficult to find a way to sustain yourself through your work online. It is no longer sustainable to keep a website up now. Axel has done so much for the web and all of us. Buy one of his books if you can. We've learned so much from him.
still not quite over the fact that i watched 15 year olds get sued for millions of dollars for downloading twelve songs and now we all have to accept AI slop because every tech company in the known universe decided that IP laws don't exist now that they're inconvenient for them
Some theses on #slop. A thread. Slop is automated ideology. It's content made of content, optimized for circulation, prompted, shaped, and refined through feedback loops of adaptation to platform conditions 1/
