Yeah I actually hate ai *and* capitalism. I can do both.
Periodic reminder: The integration of generative AI models into every sector of society is the installation of ideological and epistemic choke points, regardless of who made the model.
The spread of Chinese AI models with built-in censorship mechanisms could quietly shape the global information environment for the worse.
Some people read this as if people using "generative AI" don't know what's up. But these lines just show how the "AI" industry keeps cycling through terms hiding the same systems in order to not have to admit that the invest and outcome don't match.
lots of neat stuff but this one is amusing if you see the phrase “generative AI” as a bit of a tell about the speaker

Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.
Patreon laying off 20% of their staff is sad but TBH Patreon is a service that should be run by a handful of people just taking care of money flows. None of their dumb growth hack features. Be the money collection guys. Take a cut and have a billion dollar business with a staff leaner than Onlyfans.

In an internal email shared with creators, CEO Jack Conte wrote that AI doesn’t replace human creativity — but it does affect how the company operates.

The whole “brain is hardware, language is software” thing, the ability to program people with language etc, totally fits with the idea that empathy/caring/wokeness isn’t something people do willing, it’s only something they’re infected by. I see why callous tech bros love it.
Very good to see that this position is becoming more and more visible within the left: When it comes to so-called "AI" there is nothing there for the left but infrastructure to dismantle. Thanks for writing it up, Hagen & Inge.
“AI is, above all else, a weapon of class war from above. Whether it’s the state that wields it or corporations does little to change that fact.” — @hagenblix.bsky.social and Ingeborg Glimmer
last call for this! would love to speak to as many folks as possible!
Hi! I'm looking to speak to anyone who is finding ways to resist/work around mandatory AI usage policies at work. Mostly games industry-related, but happy to speak to anyone adjacent as well! Published quotes can of course be anon if desired. DM me here or email at luke@aftermath.site, thanks!
The funniest thing was on Mastodon though where someone complained that that way Codeberg would never grow and replace GitHub. It's an association. It doesn't need to grow, it just needs to serve its members and mission. Fucking toxic growth mindset.
I've had fun with the unhinged dudes on Mastodon complaining that Codeberg's members voted to no longer allow vibe-coded projects on our platform. Didn't expect it but "coders" here are also super pissed. Good. More internet communities should make decisions and throw some shit out.

Me, looking at antibiotics: This would be better if it was a lying machine that drove me insane
"AI is likely the most significant technology in human history," says Kanishka Narayan MP, the UK's new Minister for Artificial Intelligence, in a Linkedin post www.linkedin.com/posts/kanish... #techpolicy #AIpolicy #PPEOxford #koolaid
I’m surely not the first to come to this realisation, but the LLM industrial complex is to tech-life what MAGA is to politics: erode any and all trust in established institutions, people and practices for the benefit of the very few and worst people on the planet in the (poor) guise of freedom.
It does make sense: OpenAI was losing ground and mindshare to Anthropic. They are running out of money but couldn't IPO because SpaceX ruined it. This "our model is a Cyberweapon" is advertising directly to the Pentagon.
No, OpenAI's new magic models did not autonomously hack Huggingface. Per OpenAI's PR blog post (https://openai.com/index/hugging-face-model-evaluation-security-incident/):

Every time I see a video of a humanoid robot on the timeline that’s an instant watch because there’s a 5% chance it’s going to work and a 95% chance it’s going to turn the simple act of walking in a straight line into a Jackass stunt.
Every other website now wants to send you a code when you login as 2nd factor. Awesome. If those companies actually managed to reliably send out those MF codes.
Die Zahlen der "KI"-Buden und ihrer Partner sind schlecht. Und immer noch massiv geschönt: Rechenzentren und KI: Versteckte Konzernschulden wachsen auf 1,65 Billionen US-Dollar
But the AI bros keep telling me that water usage is not a problem. The officials must be lying.
The UK will not have enough water for future datacentres. England faces 5bn litre a day shortfall for public water supplies. A trillion litres of water a year lost to leaks. Widespread hosepipe bans. No national grid for water. Poor infrastructure. No national plan.

Every ad I’ve head for Google Health has been like “not intended for medical purposes” and I don’t think you should be able to say that if your LLM gives out medical advice and has “Health” in the title.
"Cognitive surrender" is a fascinating concept to think about the impact of AI as it exists under reactionary tech Preventing people from thinking for themselves and imagining different worlds is a godsend for authoritarians thenextweb.com/news/wharton...
Wharton researchers coined 'cognitive surrender' to describe what happens when people let AI think for them
A Wharton study found people accepted wrong AI answers 80% of the time, as apps like Moot now let five AI personas vote on your life decisions.
