Can't stop thinking about how the only reason orcas don't eat humans is because it's culturally impermissible.

Problem: we all have headphones in. Consequence: no small social interactions with the general public. Solution: "disturb" pin. Those not wearing it welcome interaction. Pin itself might start small talk.
600 ppl (!!) - incl @votesolar.bsky.social members and staff - rallying at the Illinois Capitol today for the POWER Act to ensure data centers don’t harm our water, energy, ratepayers, and frontline communities. #POWERActLobbyDay #ClimateActionNow #POWERtothePeople
This is the clock above ogilvie station in Chicago. It's wrong. Each year I grow more baffled that anything ever works. Who will notify The Clock Person? Are we just waiting for The Clock Person to see this? Forget the trains running on time - it's a miracle anything ever works.
There is a narrow path where we actually pull this off. Instead of investing in an overbuilt grid and gas fleet, we deploy and aggregate local solar and storage. Instead of walking back climate commitments, we realize that the tech we've been incentivizing is the cheapest and fastest.
How Illinois’ energy policy blueprint can address affordability, reliability
By betting on efficiency, storage, long-term energy planning and grid flexibility, the Illinois’ Clean and Reliable Grid Affordability Act offers a blueprint for the state’s energy future, Vote Solar’...

The Indiana community caught between coal and the data center boom
In rural Jasper County, two defining energy trends of the Trump era — reviving coal and building gas-powered data centers — are converging.

Gutting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is one of those things that should enrage people across every political spectrum. If, you know, people actually knew it was happening.
Thrilled to see the Illinois Solar for All program finally taking off! With statewide reach, no less. The little blue nub highlighted in the bar chart is delightfully personal - those first ten customers were my customers from my last gig. H/t Certasun, who bravely dove into a very new program.
EIA's short-term energy outlook. Sure would be nice for that solar growth to be eating into the gas/coal slices rather than powering slop.

PJM just hit a personal record in the worst way: capacity prices rose to $16.4 billion. Data centers account for 30 of the 32 GW of estimated demand growth. We passed CRGA in IL to shield us - learn more at www.volts.wtf/p/how-illino...
How Illinois passed its third big clean-energy bill in a decade
Kady McFadden and John Delurey join me to talk about why "fast and cheap" is the new winning message for climate policy.

Trying to imagine that one dude in the marketing opportunity at the paper towel company who saw this as an opportunity.
Thanks for the opportunity, @volts.wtf! Always a blast talking up IL climate and energy leadership and a dream come true from my 15 years of scheming alongside @kadymcfadden.bsky.social. CRGA doubles down on renewables and DERs at a time when the grid needs them most. @votesolar.bsky.social
Today on Volts: while some blue states hedge on their green commitments, Illinois is doubling down, passing its third major energy bill in a decade. Among other things, this one empowers the state's utility regulator to directly procure clean energy. I get into it w/ two of its architects.
Pretty wild to see how the state legislatures have swung right. Puts the red wave of 2010 into new perspective - so many longstanding bluedog states finally snapped into a new alignment. Blue leg until 2010: Alabama, Iowa, Louisiana, N Carolina, Tennessee (ish) ballotpedia.org/State_govern...
