Yusuf should be pushed on cases, such as Nus Ghani MP, to see if he is extending this prejudice, to people born in Pakistan who came here as children, and entered public life, or if he was expressing a more specific racial prejudice against British people with Somali heritage, parents or birthplace

Nadhim Zahawi should intervene publicly. As he did intervene, on things like this, when he was a Conservative - when prejudices were expressed by Conservatives (eg supported Nus Ghani) or by Reform: he was indeed vocal about whether Reform would accept people like him in public life pre-defection

Zia Yusuf now seems to be arguing that foreign-born citizens must not enter public life. That is an argument made by Restore supporters - such as Lucy White - about politicians like the Commons deputy speaker Nus Ghani (though she extends it to Yusuf, Badenoch + those with foreign-born parents)

Zia Yusuf has tweeted this about the leader of Camden Council, Sagal Abdi-Wali, who has lived in Camden for over 35 years, after arriving as a child refugee in the early 1990s. (Nadhim Zahawi, born in Baghdad to an Iraqi Kurdish family, came to the UK as an 11 year old:should be asked about this)

Significant intervention from some of NI's leading civil society groups working on rights and peacebuilding in response to today's Policy Exchange report claiming that the GFA does not restrict the UK's from withdrawing from the ECHR and on the importance of the ECHR for NI:

CAJ@cajni.bsky.social · last yr.

The ECHR is deeply embedded within the 1998 Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. This commitment does not allow the UK Government to formulate some version of what it regards as ECHR-equivalent protections. Read our joint statement 👇 @ppr-org.bsky.social & Human Rights Consortium NI

There is a lot of sophistry in the Policy Exchange GFA report, especially parsing sources to give an inaccurate impression. Here I'm cited discussing the impact of the the GFA on the NI legal order as a whole and it is presented as authority for the commitments only binding NI's devolved bodies:

This is just sophistry. I cannot understand how any academic has got drawn into this quagmire. All it means is 'the UK can break or try to renegotiate the two treaties and the principles that underpin them'. Of course that's true! One might as well say 'moon made of rock'. So what? 🤷‍♂️

Well, its not like any of Policy Exchange reports are subject to peer review - their arguements are very much absent from legal academic journals. But yes - the presentation of these as the best of academic standards is a really problematic turn over recent years.

Really don’t understand football ⚽️ France 🇫🇷 v 🇸🇳 Senegal. Defender is holding on to player in the box waiting for the corner. Literally giving him a bear hug. Nothing happens, then the defender steps on his own goal keeper’s foot. Who proceeds to fall over! He wins a free kick 😳🤔🙄🫣 ⚽️
