baseball doesn’t need a salary cap. you can’t use money to brute force your way to a World Series win, and more teams have won a World Series this century than a Super Bowl or NBA championship. a cap only helps owners—and sports owners are the worst people this side of car dealership owners.

So whenever I encounter this kind of "mass audiences are idiots" thing, even in such a frivolous context, it really bothers me. It's indicative of something sick in our social being. And I think its something of a self fulfilling prophecy, it trains people not to think, try, or demand better.

i respect the haterism bc i also didn't like it much but this is very much not meeting the movie on its own terms. i don't think it much works on its own terms and there are bits where she gets at why, but this is a lot of preconsidered issues with nolan and (earned) pretension over a text she loves

‘Nolan has read at least the first line of my translation of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘥𝘺𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘺 into iambic pentameter. In one interview, he cited my version of it: “Tell me about a complicated man.” But I would be ashamed to have written any part of this script.’ New, by Emily Wilson www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

ive been more of a france fan since i got to see mbappe play in paris in 2018 but the us playing good soccer for 4 games got me to invest again and i really should've known better

The worst part of this entire stupid escapade is that Americans can no longer shitpost about our ahistorically good team—literally the one fuckin thing we’ve got going for us right now—in peace
