Bit late to this - added it to my reading list and promptly went festivaling - but this is very good and shows why the politics of land needs to return and be at the heart of 'Manchesterism'. Without it we can't really achieve a lot of Burnham's aims; the politics of the physical needs to return.

Really lovely piece by @ebenmyrddin.bsky.social on place names and the stories they tell (or at least hint at). I love the legibility of the Welsh countryside - even if you can acquire a few dozen words of Welsh, that opens up so many histories and mysteries to the imagination.

An odd story in which a landowner from Birmingham has purchased a defunct Welsh reservoir (now an influencer beauty spot) and started charging £2 entry in order to "deter public visitation to the site". They seem to think this has removed their liability. In fact, it significantly increases it.

I met two unemployed lads, tattoos & unkempt, sharing a joint whilst returning from camping in the publicly accessible woods on Winter Hill behind Bolton. They were pushing a barrow of rubbish they'd cleared as they departed, and then placing it, sorted, in a local homeowner's recycling bins.
