We have two job openings in my lab currently — for a postdoc (100% FTE some teaching four years) and a postdoc/phd student (75% FTE no teaching three years). Check them out at www.uni-luebeck.de/aktuelles/be...

The Obleser lab will be hiring soon! New postdoc (fully funded) and new PhD or part-time postdoc position (soft-money funded). Spread the word. Start in Sept/Oct. Watch out for official announcements! Please be in touch. auditorycognition.com obleserlab.com hoerhanse.de lemmi.uni-luebeck.de
together with our friends at ORCA labs, Martin Orf and our lab come out with some intricate data on how gait, speech, and neural activity relate during walking’n’talking.
Speech, gait, and brain dynamics during natural conversation in motion https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2025.12.23.696153v1
Behaviour helps you filter your environment. The ever-imaginative Malte Wöstmann with a new set of auditory attention/EEG results—with the very simple, very effectful twist that individuals were instructed to move freely. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... @uniluebeck.bsky.social
#neuroscience2025: Come and meet four of us of the @jonasobleser.bsky.social lab and some of our work at Society for Neuroscience San Diego 2025 next week, we will have 4 posters in the TUESDAY PM (1-5 pm) SESSION: @uniluebeck.bsky.social @sarahtune.bsky.social
One more beachside reading from our lab — Schuckart, Tune & Obleser www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... Perceptual style shifts with age, with older adults tending toward more sensory-driven, ASD-like profiles—shaping how people respond to predictability and volatility in language and perception.
Dynamic Neural Encoding of Prior Expectations and Auditory Evidence Drive Perceptual Decision-Making https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.08.11.669640v1
www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... New data from our lab — Sarah Tune, Iris Borschke, and I come out with modelling the neural fate and the behavioural impact of single clicks in auditory decision making. Beautiful work by @sarahtune.bsky.social — foreshadowing what is going on in the lab currently.
(The world is in shambles, but) We did find out that your hearing aid comes with a certain cognitive cost a priori any of the (certainly greater) benefit you will draw from it. — The pupil is a lovely, sensitive measure. Congrats to first author Markus Kemper. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
@sarahjessen.bsky.social of the Babylab @uniluebeck.bsky.social took Martin Orf and me from the @jonasobleser.bsky.social lab along an intriguing journey into the neural fate and consequences of a mother‘s voice in her infant’s brain. Under review now. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
I hope you enjoy some of the ideas I put forward in “Metacognition in the listening brain”: Trends in Neurosciences www.cell.com/trends/neuro... — out now.
Metacognition in the listening brain
How do you know you have heard right? Metacognition, the ability to assess and monitor one’s own cognitive state, is key to understanding human communication in complex environments. However, the foun...

LEMMI: it’s happening. German federal agency Wissenschaftsrat recommends for funding the future „Lübeck Environment for Minds and Machine in Interaction“ research building. Hooray! @uniluebeck.bsky.social Land Schleswig-Holstein. t.co/xe5gFbzo5Q
Out now in @elife.bsky.social: @sarahtune.bsky.social and I showing with Sarah’s stats modelling how neural measures and behavioural outcome go separate ways in middle-aged and older listeners. Key endpoint to my ERC project. @uniluebeck.bsky.social #Obleserlab elifesciences.org/articles/92079
Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, and Sara (and, yeah, Anna) come out with an ingenious study on the perception of power structures (my words) in preschoolers #socialneuroscience #devpsych @sarahjessen.bsky.social @sarahtune.bsky.social
How do kids and adult figure out who is the boss? Looks like kids base their judgements on physical parameters, while adults rather consider behavior. For more details check out our new preprint with @sarahtune.bsky.social and our super talented students Sarah, Sara and Anna. osf.io/preprints/ps...

I don’t sign open letters lightly. This one is relatively simple: German scientists must have issues with antisemitism and must name it when they see it. #NieWiederIstJetzt #istandwithmyisraelicolleagues www.athene-center.de/nie-wieder

If you think I might be useful in serving as a panelist (“fachgutachter”) to the DFG in the next years, I would be honoured if your cast your vote for Jonas Obleser, 2.23-08, Kogn./Systemische Neurowissenschaften www.dfg.de/dfg_profil/g...
okay, everybody’s bored by ChatGPT by now, but: still breathtaking how (i) elaborate and erudite it refuses to help me cheat my way through a simple t-test (I tried to make it cheat for me, but it spoke of its high ethical standards. Very well), AND (ii) absolutely messes up the t-statistic itself.
