Working for engagement, accountability and equity.

This is a positive outcome from our strike action and we want to thank all members, students and other supporters for their unwavering support over the past five weeks. However, we acknowledge the unfairness in the redundancy process that will see many colleagues forced out of the University. 2/2

We welcome Angela Scott’s announcement to pause the compulsory redundancy process. We have always been willing to return to the negotiations in good faith and the two week pause allows us to do this with the aim of reaching a position that reduces the number of compulsory redundancies. 1/2

When the University Executive Group have reached their own staff reduction targets, why are they cutting further? They want rid of the critical voices, trade unionists and the whistleblowers who have been shining a light on their failings. No surrender.

Day 1 of 25 - Massive turnout today on our picket line. Thanks to Heather Anderson MSP and @maggiechapman.bsky.social for your support on the picket line this morning. And for all our amazing students from Students Against Cuts. No compulsory redundancies. #SaveDundeeUni

We are taking 25 days of strike action starting on Monday. We want the University of Executive Group rule out compulsory redundancies. To our students - this is a last resort to retain jobs that are essential for your education during your degree at the University of Dundee. Support the strike!

We have 5 days to save 154 jobs at the University of Dundee. This follows 850+ job losses since August 2024. Everyone who supports the university and higher education needs to be at this event. 12:30pm, Bonar Hall. Next Tuesday 8th September.

Some colleagues received 5 minutes notice for their online at risk meeting and had not yet received their letter informing them they were at risk. Executive staff did not bother to turn up to the meeting. This is the true face of executive leadership at the University of Dundee.

The Courier doesn’t think this story is worth of being its top story today. It is instead a story about a new cleaning business. Please like, share and comment to show how much interest there is in protecting jobs at the University of Dundee. www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/politics/...

EXCLUSIVE: SNP education chief urged to ‘urgently intervene’ in Dundee University cuts row

Dundee SNP MSP Heather Anderson has asked Education Secretary Mairi McAllan to step in after unions accused the university of ending consultation prematurely.

There are just 21 working days until Dundee UCU members begin 25 days of strike action. We are striking because after 820 job losses, the UEG has proposed making 200 people redundant. We are asking the University to rule our redundancies and return to the negotiating table as soon as possible.

With colleagues leaving the University of Dundee since May, the staffing level is just 43FTE above the target level set by the executive. Other cost savings mean another 10FTE can be removed from the target. So with 10 people leaving every month, the staffing savings will be met by end of October.

In 50 days time our members will be taking 5 weeks of strike action. We call for the redundancy process to be stopped! Executives want 200 jobs to go (187FTE). Due to resignations and retirements, and non-staff savings, they are 35FTE from their staffing target. Stop this cruel, flawed process.

There comes to a point in any struggle where words, lobbying and removal of labour cease to be as effective. With universities threatening non-striking staff if they do not fill in for striking colleagues we have reached this point. Our unions need to be more radical in actions, as we are losing.

Next week’s strikes will be critical for the University of Dundee. Do we accept the upcoming compulsory redundancies that UEG are forecasting or do we ask them to rule them out? Join the picket lines next week to make your voice heard. You are the difference. #SaveDundeeUni #SaveHE

Members of our branch voted to take strike action on 17th-18th March. We are asking the University to rule out compulsory redundancies. We also passed a unanimous Vote of No Confidence in the University Executive Group. Join us on the picket lines! #SaveHE www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/politics/...

In August, in a meeting with the Scottish Gov, Nigel Seaton stated that it was “necessary to be clear with staff what redundancies would likely be needed now.” The University Recovery Plan he drafted stated there would need to be 340 redundancies. Yesterday he told staff there are no plans.

Solidarity with colleagues at Stirling who are striking over the threat to jobs. That’s three branches in two days who are joining others on the picket lines or in dispute across the Scottish university sector!

Moving people around for different posts does not save money. Nor does creating 4 new highly-paid posts, where some people will be recruited from lower grades. It’s just moving the cost around on the internal balance sheets. And without growth the University will be forced into a cycle of cuts.

Dundee UCU@ducuuo.bsky.social · 8mo ago

A great point made at the Scottish Parliament Committee. Without a growth mindset the University of Dundee will be caught in a vicious cycle of continuing job cuts, losing over 100+ jobs every year due to inflationary pressures. Why did UEG focus on a major restructuring that will not save money?
