@defector.com As a Canadian subscriber you guys need to get someone on the Canadian men’s team at least once in this World Cup. Triumph and tragedy today, more broadly a hockey nation becoming a soccer nation in real time. It’s a genuine Thing. Assign it! Or DM me if you just want a column. ;)

To our American friends. Even after all the… you know, when actual American citizens need Canada, we’re there for you without hesitation. I can’t imagine we’d never help American people who need us. Maybe think about that as we go along here… www.semafor.com/article/05/2...

Exclusive: The US relied on a spurned friend during the Iran war: Canada

The US embassy in the UAE had to improvise to help Americans without passports after its facilities came under fire.

The NFL is going to start the 2026 season in a country with suspended elections and killing in the streets and the guys in the booth are going to say things like “with all that’s going on we’re just happy to be a place where Americans come together regardless of our differences.”

I am BEGGING parents to let their kids play on their own and figure things out. I had my daughter with me all day today while I was working and the best 90 minutes of her day was when I kicked her out in the snow to go play in the backyard, Calvin and Hobbes mom style.

Older generations spent a lot less time parenting. Millennial dads spend nearly as much time parenting as Boomer moms did. Millennial and Gen X moms way more. via The Economist

For those of you who wondered if Elbows Up was ever coming back…. It’s not. At least not as it was. But if you haven’t deserted the feed yet, you’ll find something new in your podcast app tomorrow morning. Hope you’ll check it out!

I am firmly on the left—ask anyone!—and I think she looks nice! Great holiday outfit, nice lighting, perhaps an excessive amount of boobs but very pretty! Hope she’s happy! I am sorry to report I guess that I am the opposite of enraged. The culture war has entered a strange new dimension recently

All the dollars I lost happily hedging against the Jays earlier this year are coming back to me and bringing friends and I honestly hate that. Might have to up the ante. Either we win the division or I make enough money to buy a Switch 2. Gotta go do some math.

I have to tell you folks. I enjoy emotional hedging as basically my only form of sports betting. And I’ve probably lost about $60-80 betting $3-5 against the Blue Jays every day since they got hot and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent.

Not that anyone asked but my brother was doing a Remember Concerts We’ve Been To thing in the group chat, and the more the years go by the more I realize this is probably the best and most historic show I’ll ever have attended: www.setlist.fm/setlist/radi...
