DSA, 2016: “We oppose [the TPP] now, we'll oppose it after the election, and we'll oppose it when Bernie is President. DSA, 2026: “This TPP sets the gold standard in trade agreements to open free, transparent, fair trade, the kind of environment that has the rule of law and a level playing field.”
DSA-aligned Democrats are now the most pro-free-trade voting bloc in the United States, in an incredible turn of events www.theargumentmag.com/p/who-suppor...

WTF? A married couple making $131,100/yr in long-term capital gains and no other income pays a 0% federal tax rate. If that had been regular wage income instead, their federal tax rate would be over 16%, costing them $21,400 in federal income and payroll taxes. The tax code favors wealth over work.
These tiny trucks are great but the reason they can’t be imported to the US is because they must be 25 years old to be exempt from federal motor vehicle safety standards that they’re not designed or engineered for. It’s not actually some auto industry conspiracy.
An $8,000 kei truck by Suzuki in Japan, not available in Canada to prevent competition vs. the Big Three who want to charge $50,000+ for a pickup truck. Canada should allow kei vehicles. youtu.be/5XJGa6j2l6s
I'm guessing "downsizing" is not one of the recommendations?
More adult children are moving back home as housing costs, inflation and student debt take a toll. Here's how parents can protect their finances and retirement savings
I discovered recently that I was unable to view TikTok videos by @jamellebouie.net. Was I blocked? I wanted to find the last comment I made on any of his videos so I requested an archive of my TikTok user activity and found it... March 18, 2025. The comment which allegedly earned me a block:
most worry more about how far their marginal dollar stretches with "everyday" expenses. people pay their rent/mortgage/auto-loan/wireless/internet/tv on a regular schedule that rarely changes. These other costs are either frequent consumable or unexpected/unplanned/variable.
Well the problem is that rent is way down on the list of what people care about!
While I don’t know or care about the context, probably the charitable way to put this would have been “I want you to realize the facts so you can stop being wrong/misinformed”

God DAMN lmao. Feminism most vindicated social movement in history?

If you need to basically "ship of theseus" your constitution a few times, is it a success or a failure? Both?
I think it is just a really strange take to conclude that the world's longest standing written constitution, which also happens to be the constitution of its most powerful and prosperous country, is a "remarkable failure." 'It's not perfect' - sure. But a failure? Uh, scoreboard?
Oh & amidst all the craziness last week (👇) let's not forget, we passed my $11B housing bond! It took me 4 years, but we got it done. This will expand housing for veterans, first-time homebuyers, farmworkers, our unhoused neighbors & more. A good reminder that government can still deliver.
I'm the author of ACA 22. I'm also adamantly opposed to it. That deserves an explanation – so I want to tell you what went down w/the ACA, and the fight over transfer taxes & the Taxpayer Protection Act. 👇
This guy was so mad about birthright citizenship that he changed parties after this. (Note: Democrats were not the good guys in the 1860s)
That's right.
Surely there must be a sliver of people who were "Too young to vote" 10 years ago which should now be in the "Died" category? I guess they are of no consequence though?
A fifth of Leave voters have died.
This week in @ocregister.bsky.social, I make the case for split roll: California should adopt normal property taxes on commercial properties—bringing new sites online—and spend the money to zero out impact fees/permitting fees and paying cities that build housing. www.ocregister.com/2026/06/21/n...
Nolan Gray: The YIMBY case for split roll
Across California, unsightly strip malls and office parks sit aging and undeveloped, purely because of the perverse incentives created by this fluke in state tax law.

um... you can't be "truly oppositional" if you don't have the votes?
the idea that there is a latent far-left socialist majority that refuses to vote is legitimately just the political equivalent of a cargo cult
Fact check: False Condon makes is a wrong/flawed conclusion. These economists make a distinction between the price mechanism and the private capture of economic rent. The "drain" is the privatization of the rent, and the high "price" is the visible symptom of that privatization.
"These people agree with me" Condon says about Henry George........

In California with typical electricity cost of $0.36 per kilowatt-hour, it would cost $32 to fully charge a 90 kilowatt-hour EV battery. And that assumes perfect charging efficiency. But it would also cost $90 to fill a gas tank.
Imagine having your own gas pump at home & imagine a full tank costs about $7 bucks! That is what EV life is like for those of us who can plug in at home. Not everyone can do this, but if you are in the market for a car anyway & you have a driveway or can run an extension cord, I recommend an EV.

This is the company that owns Volvo Cars. That's the closest thing to getting one in the US. You can see the resemblence, though the Volve is much bigger.
In China, the best selling car is actually not a Tesla. It’s this: the Chevy Sonic-sized Geely Xingyuan (EX2), which starts just under $10,000. I drove it around for a few mins, and it wasn’t hard to understand just why Geely sold nearly 500,000 units last year. insideevs.com/features/797...
Today marked a huge milestone in the legislative process, and I'm happy to share that all my bills are now headed to the Senate!
🧵 Thread: California is about to have a massive fight over taxes, housing, and democracy itself. Here's what's at stake and why the legislature needs to cut a deal by mid-June.
