Member of Parliament for Calder Valley, Health and Social Care Select Committee Member, mediocre fell runner - never knowingly on message.

I know people feel raw about this and I do understand. I’d have voted for a workable bill. But having spoken on a number of occasions on palliative care and social care it’s pretty galling to be accused of bad faith

I was proud to be in parliament to hear the foreign secretary announce comprehensive sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements. Alongside France and Canada. I spoke to push the foreign secretary on calling out settler violence and the collusion of the Israeli army in it.

Following a motion originally proposed by our Labour Councillors, the Reform Leader of Calderdale Council recently contacted me about Yorkshire Water’s performance. I am very happy to work with any good faith attempt to help the people of Calderdale and hold our water companies to account.

Today I am speaking at Woman’s Aid conference. One area of work I’m most proud of is ending the presumption, in family courts, that contact with an abuser is beneficial to a child. A policy directly responsible for the death of 67 children. I asked the minister about it recently

This week we launched the national cancer plan. It will revolutionise research, care, treatment and survival for cancer sufferers. This has been lauded by doctors and cancer charities alike. I’m proud to be in parliament fighting for our cancer treatment to be the best in the world.

Andrew Gwynne was very kind when my brother passed away. I wouldn’t seek for a second to justify or defend his WhatsApps. But it’s honestly quite sad that the end of a 20 year parliamentary career due to ill health is being viewed through the lens of Labour psychodrama.

I was proud to add my name to this call for a ban on social media for under 16s. The evidence is becoming increasingly clear that the pressure and emotional toll that social media is having a negative impact on our young people and we should do what we can to protect them from that.

I have to say that running for the leadership of a party then going to join a different one when you don’t get your own way really is a shoddy way to behave. I’ve been involved in the Labour party for 26 years now, I can’t imagine treating the activists I’ve worked with with such little respect.

Today I have written to the Secretary of State for Education to share my concerns and those of parents about the proposed merger of Pennine Academy Learning Trust (PALT) and the Trinity chain of academies.
