You know cycling has become part of your everyday life when cornering in a stiff breeze on gravel with a 5 ft inflatable gecko on your bike doesn’t faze you. Even if others are laughing and pointing. (That gecko may have an unfortunate accident)

Bike and a gecko. Gecko face

On a train listening to four kids (students?) On their way to Rome. They have paper phrase and guide books and are cramming Italian. Never been away without their parents. Me and the other passengers doing the ‘oh bless’ eye roll at each other, silently. The kids are all right.

Feel like I crossed a personal cycling Rubicon- went to the Big Sainsbury’s on the ring road by cargo bike. You know what? It’s not that hard. There are paths and crossings I never knew existed. My car trips are vanishing one at a time.

Oats, banana, peanut butter, bicarb and dry fruit make excellent porridge breakfast bars along with a glass of milk for a small boy and I'm just mad it took me a heatwave and this long to think of it and I've been making porridge each morning for years.

SEN mum hack if it helps anyone. Too hot for trousers, won't wear school shorts because - different. Cut the legs short of the trousers they are still, somehow 'trousers'. Winning, one tiny battle at a time. Even if he looks like a ragamuffin. 🤷‍♀️

I have just replaced all my failed veg that died in the hot snap that was Plantmageddon from the Oxford City Farm. It took two bikes to get them home, I also got cake and garlic scapes, plus some food waste chives. Peak East Oxford level unlocked. V. happy.

Small has two days off school because he ate an entire punnet of plums when I wasn't looking. Today, WFH, is going about as well as you'd expect...🙄

Posting in to the ether: have been learning Ukrainian but write very badly. Have now discovered I can dictate Ukrainian into WhatsApp by just speaking at it, and it will write it for me. This is a game changer for communicating with Ukrainian friends and makes me very happy. 🇺🇦

Bike was serviced for first time in like three years. Sailed past half a dozen people on Magdalen bridge, while wearing a giant rucksack. I should get it serviced more often 🤣

In a surprise to literally zero working mothers, researchers at the University of Oxford have found that the careers of women who take parental leave are adversely affected. Conversely men who take extended parental leave are seen as leadership material and therefore more likely to progress.

When men take parental leave, their careers may benefit — but women’s do not

New research using Canadian workplace data finds that men who take six months or more of parental leave are seen as warmer and more leadership-ready by colleagues.

Posting in to the ether because 😱 Currently with a relative in a hospital for reasons. Also trying to work. Woman in next bed has gangrene 🤢, someone is scream/ coughing and a man has just turned up with a guitar leading a singsong ‘Oh what a beautiful morning’ 🤷‍♀️ NHS staff are heroes.

I have very few followers and even fewer photos of today but just want to put out into the universe that every person who turned up to Magdalen Road Festival and danced in the rain today is epic. Retailers and charities had a good day. This is what community looks like. Extra thanks to volunteers 😍
