I'd hoped to go to the coast this weekend and photograph plants to share for #wildflowerhour, but the car's gear box had other plans. So here's a few favourite plants #bythesea instead. Sea Milkwort, Thrift, Sea Aster, Sea Holly, Sea Stock, Sticky Stork's-bill, Sea Bindweed, Sea Heath & Dune Pansy.
Pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) looking resplendent in full flower as the pond water disappears from around it. North Dorset. @dorsetflora.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social
The hybrid between Dorset Heath & Cross-leaved Heath, Erica x watsonii #wetlandplants #WildflowerHour
White Beak-sedge & Black Bog-rush (Rhynchospora alba & Schoenus nigricans) #wetlandplants #WildflowerHour

There were so many Grayling on the wing in the Purbecks this week, none of them where particularly interested in posing for their photograph though.
Today, I led a @dorsetflora.bsky.social field meeting to record plants on some unrecorded chalk grassland in north Dorset. 111 species, 27 Dorset notables. At some points the butterflies stole the show! Thanks @jostephen.bsky.social for your help.
Flowering on the north Dorset Downs this morning: Wild Basil, Wild Carrots, Knapweed, Red Bartsia, Small Scabious, Wild Parsnip, Restharrow, Wild Thyme, Squinancywort and Carline Thistle.
