If i'd lived in Joseon between 1785 and 1793, when the ban on novels was in effect, i'd either have had to be extremely wealthy or i'd have been utterly miserable. Every novel cost a small fortune! You could secretly borrow a novel for one tenth of its price, but only for three days. 1/

Behind Five Willows is wonderful! Unlike my previous read, it isn't harrowing at all. It's all about books, and the book bans in Joseon: the ban on writing fiction, on reading it, and even the ban on printing it. So authors wrote novels in secret, readers read them in secret, and scribes... 1/
