Political ecological economy of climate change and energy transitions • Postdoc at the University of Copenhagen

Just reviewed a paper for a high prestige journal by scholars from a high prestige uni. They cite one example of what they criticise, supposedly from that same journal. I look it up. AI hallucination. I reach out to the claimed author. They have never heard about it.

The workings of fossil capital extend beyond energy into our material world. We have a new paper out on how and why that is. We consider the overlaps between fossil fuels and synthetic materials, analysing global plastics governance from a neo-Gramscian perspective.

new open access paper with colleagues @jacktaggart.bsky.social and @jptilsted.bsky.social in @ripejournal.bsky.social it offers a neo-gramscian perspective on the political economy of plastics / plastic pollution, exploring attempts by dominant actors to sustain 'plastic hegemony'

Ever wondered why there is no accessible book-length introduction to ecological economics and the political economy of transitions in Danish? I know I have, so I tried to write one. It is out tomorrow, asking how we analytically should approach whether it is too little, too late and who benefits.

Gaza is now single deadliest conflict for journalists in history. This is not only an attempt to extinguish a whole people, it is also an attempt to extinguish the story of their genocide. “One day, everyone will have always been against this.” - Egyptian-Canadian writer, Omar El Akkad. #Gaza

The city of Beit Hanoun in the north east edge of Gaza is seen from above. It is completely destroyed, not a single building is standing. It is all rubble, as though the aftermath of a nuclear explosion. The city had a population of 52,000

'(...) a straightforward extension of the petrochemical industry that has been poisoning them for decades. (...) “How can we have a blue ammonia plant when we’re already overburdened with chemicals?”'

This is a fantastic piece on the "reactionary decarbonization" that is carbon capture and storage, by the always-brilliant Mike Levien. Must read.

I had to read this three times to be sure I got it right. 'In a retaliatory lawsuit, Exxon says claims against it are motivated by “sordid for-profit incentives and outright greed.”' Exxon showcasing similar tactics when it comes to the plastic pollution crisis. grist.org/accountabili...

California and environmental groups sued Exxon over plastics. Now Exxon is striking back.

In a retaliatory lawsuit, Exxon says claims against it are motivated by “sordid for-profit incentives and outright greed.”

This interesting new paper models some of the dilemmas of defossilising petrochemicals and plastics around biomass as feedstock and the associated land use change. The overlap of decarbonisation and defossilisation puts nature under further pressure without degrowth. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The potential land-use impacts of bio-based plastics and plastic alternatives - Nature Sustainability

Bio-based plastics have gained attention as a potentially sustainable way to reduce fossil fuel-based plastic demand and store carbon. However, large-scale adoption of bio-based alternatives could hav...

Global klimaretfærdighed tilsiger selvklart mere markante reduktioner. klimaraadet.dk/da/analyse/d...

Danmarks klimamål i 2035
