The NAACP has released a statement while the Tarrant County Commissioners Court considers a proposal today that would cut the number of Election Day polling locations nearly in half "Let's call this what it is… voter suppression"

Tarrant County, Texas, could see around 50 percent fewer polling locations in November's election.

"Let's call this what it is… voter suppression," said NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson. "Cutting nearly half the places where people can cast a ballot doesn't save democracy money, it costs voters their voice. Tarrant County is home to a significant number of Black and Latino voters and is a majority people-of-color county. There is no question that this plan strips away polling access on a scale that will hit Black and Brown voters hardest. That is not a coincidence. It’s an intentional assault on our ability to make our voices heard and we will push back with every tool available.”

1. This New York Post cover: “Thousands of 9/11 families demand Mamdani be banned from 25th-Anniversary” is a brazen lie. How do I know? I interviewed the organizer of the petition.

I am very ashamed to live in a country where people will wake up with the terror that the secret police are coming to kidnap them, separate them from their families, and brutalize or even kill them because they are not white.

22 states are seeing sober drivers arrested for DUIs EN MASSE. Tennessee is leading the charge with their officers bypassing people blowing zeros on field sobriety tests and them basically saying “well I smell alcohol” and locking people up anyway

The horrifying video shows a straight-up execution of a Black man by police. It's a gutting demonstration of the continued, horrifying impunity with which police regularly treat Black life and none of us can accept this. wisconsinexaminer.com/briefs/madis...

After the Civil War, Congress anticipated white lawmakers in the South would use the criminal legal system to stop Black people from voting, so they readmitted southern states under strict conditions. States have been violating those conditions since.

A Voting Rights Promise, Betrayed for 156 Years - Bolts

After the Civil War, Congress readmitted Southern states on the condition they not expand felony disenfranchisement—but they quickly ignored the restriction. It has finally caught up with one state, with a federal court ruling against Virginia and reviving the Reconstruction-era promise.

ICE lied about how Renee Good was shot. They lied about how Alex Pretti was shot. And now they’re lying about how Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot. Don’t believe their story for a second.

This is a wonderful article about what the Whistle Crew is doing to sustain and create community. It describes them as "whimsical and deeply serious" and somehow the article itself also manages to be both. Great work, @conversationalist.org!

Welcome to the Whistle Rebellion

Across the United States, activists and organizers are 3D printing one of the most surprisingly effective weapons against ICE.

ICE is engaged in a very large escalation nationwide, with the agency claiming to be hitting record arrest numbers amid the return of quotas. This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.

The explosion of MAGA rage at birthright citizenship ruling confirms again that MAGA is really a movement for ethnic cleansing. As we discuss on the pod, it's telling that sealed border and end to TPS/asylum don't sate MAGA. They want dramatic ethnic purges. Listen: newrepublic.com/article/2125...
