I’m tired of this topic but RTd this, because it’s an instructively hilarious example of a journalistic practice that I would describe as “misleading your readers by asking scary rhetorical questions very loudly, and then answering no to them very quietly.” Extremely common re: AI lately

I was once lost in Copenhagen and asked someone for directions to Kongens Nytorv. He had no idea what place I meant. I slowly enunciated: KONG-GENS NOO-TORV. Still had no idea. Suddenly I had an epiphany and said it as fast and slurred as I could: kongnootah. "Oh it's two blocks that way" #danish

My secret, Cap, is that I'm *always* angry about old books. For instance, here's a tiny slice of the millions of books 1931-1986 that have no commercial value, that are digitized, but that we're unable to use in large-scale research because they are illegal to share or display.

For a citation analysis project in 2010, I checked the bibliographies of 100 random papers from different fields. Only three of those articles had bibs entirely free of formatting errors, and *many* had pretty glaring errors (like journal name). To consider when using bibs to check for AI.

no doubt im a bad academic but i don’t doubt that someone who went through my work with a fine tooth comb would find some howlers. a french reader pointed out to me once that I got the name of the main archives I worked in for my first book wrong in the abbreviations/ front matter! mea culpalol

The software paper for pyuca in JOSS was one of their earliest and I think the first of a text processing / DH nature. I actually chose to submit pyuca first of my OSS projects as a testing of the waters of how they'd handle such a submission. joss.theoj.org/papers/10.21...
