Ok, problem two here, identify by McElreath is that correlations for assessing predictions is just kind of insane(?), no idea how that made it to print or even past the design phase. There's a pretty rich literature on evaluating predictions of models... bsky.app/profile/rmce...
The quoted paper does find that by RMSE, the predictions are bad. That's not the title though. And all the figures use correlation. There's just no context in which assessing predictions by correlation makes sense.
Real full-circle moment loading- First semester of college I took "Introduction to the mind-brain: psychological, biological, & philosophical perspectives" & fell in love w cognitive psychology. I vividly remember learning about PDP connectionist models & thinking that they were so freaking cool 1/
We are currently expanding our Attentional Control Data Collection with new data sets. If you have a (public) data set with an attentional control manipulation (such as Stroop, flanker, Simon, negative priming, etc.), then please add! More info here: www.uni-potsdam.de/en/psych-met...

I only found this series now, but it's a fascinating read! 🤓📖
With the new US administration demonizing diversity, equity and inclusion ( #DEI ) as a major enemy of their barbaric agenda and several institutions spinelessly removing information on female, black, queer and other scientists already, it is up to us science communicators to give those crucial >
This short read by my lab member Nicole Cruz is very much worth reading! Check it out!

Way too perfect metaphor for our times. Including the fact that it's all televised.

So this! What drives me nuts is the stupid Christmas gnome stuff, a current German millennial parents thing. And now there are Easter gnomes. It is pure evil.
“I am begging other parents to fucking cool it” is a mantra in the age of millennial parents
Our lab is currently at #teap2026 in Tübingen, Germany (say hi if you are there!). Yesterday I had a full day of excellent vision, illusion and psychophysics talks (including some magic ✨). Let's see what today brings.
Only two days left to submit your abstract for this year's @mathpsych.org meeting. Some things to consider: 1. The conference is in Canada. 2. If you cannot attend in person, there is a virtual track. Consider submitting there! You can pick the track during the submission process. See you there!
Abstract submission are open for the MathPsych/ICCM 2026 conference in Montreal July 17 to 21, 2026 mathpsych.org/conference/23/ The submission deadline is February 28!
I want to be this person at *every* conference. Would be the most (and least) popular person. 🥱
Speeches can not be too long- every year an 8 year girl has the task of shouting ‘Please stop, I’m bored’ until the speaker stops talking. @aaas.org #AAASmtg

Cow Tools! We have lived alongside cows for nearly 10,000 years. We breed them and exploit them It is now, only now, that we have discovered THEY CAN USE TOOLS Here I describe our study (paper) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... in @currentbiology.bsky.social with @auersperga.bsky.social
I have been a part of five psychology/public health departments over the years. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself — when I was really struggling and unhappy and felt like I didn’t belong in the field at all — how different your social experience can be from institution to institution.
