Building data science tools @posit.co, #rstats, parenthood ✨📊✨

The Positron Notebook Editor is out of beta and ready for all your notebook workflows! I am super proud of the work the team did to build this notebook experience from scratch. Something we decided was necessary to have a fantastic notebook experience for data science.

The latest release of #Positron went out last week, and I am so pleased to share what's in it! 🥳 Some big features we've been working on for a while (the editor for `.ipynb` notebooks, the Packages pane, Posit Assistant) all came out of preview this month: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-07...

Latest version of Positron can open xlsx files in the data viewer(!) and it has a dropdown menu now for previewing different formats of #QuartoPub documents And—most importantly, but also from a few weeks ago, so less new—the plots panel can pick up dimensions from chunk options!!!! #rstats

An excel file of R's penguins data loaded into the data viewer in PositronA "Preview Format…" dropdown menuA screenshot of an image set to be 5x3 in the Quarto chunk options, automatically displaying as 5x3 in the plot panel

Air 0.10.0 is out now! - Enforce `<-` or `=` throughout your #rstats code (only one of these is correct though 😉) - Tighter Positron and RStudio integration - pre-commit / prek support - stdin support - Install with uv, mise, or pixi Read all about it! opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-06...

Air 0.10.0

Air 0.10.0 is here! This release rounds up everything new since 0.8.2: a new `assignment-style` option, tighter Positron and RStudio integrations, installation via uv and friends, pre-commit support, ...

Jasmine! Is! Excellent! As a human, as a data person, as a community member. Yes yes yes. Also, the SLC RUG (#rstats user group) is wonderful and usually VIRTUAL (this one is), which means you need not be in Utah to attend. And I don't think you need me to tell you Julia is a delight 🥰

Join the SLC RUG next Tues, June 23 about how @jasminedaly.bsky.social uses Claude Code in her work as an #rstats consultant! I'm really excited to learn more at this session 💫 www.meetup.com/slc-rug/even...

When we started working on Positron, we began by asking "what did we always want to do in RStudio, but couldn't"? Years of community upvotes on RStudio's issue tracker helped us form that wishlist. Here's how some big ideas made their way to Positron: opensource.posit.co/blog/2026-06...

RStudio's Top Feature Requests ... In Positron

Many of the most upvoted RStudio feature requests are already implemented in Positron, and we explore ten of them.

The user interface in the new Posit Assistant is one of the best and most intuitive I've seen for using AI tools for editing code. This will be excellent for students and researchers already familiar with RStudio. This is a brilliant harness and user experience for using AI for data science 🎉

I've just tried Posit Assistant on the free plan and must say, I'm impressed. Using the super-cheap Gemma 4 26B model (10% cost of Sonnet) on free plan it worked instantly. Hats of to the #posit team for integrating this into RStudio and allowing people to test with free plan!
