THE ENCAMPMENTS blew me away. This film completely transported me inside of the historic campus encampment movement last spring, right to the heart, a truly unprecedented look. If you can find a way to see it — DO IT! It's a MUST-SEE. @watermelonpictures.bsky.social #theencampments

Any one of the "11,000 global members with diverse viewpoints" who cannot condemn the physical assault of a filmmaker does not belong in the Academy. This is a woefully insufficient response, literally worse than silence.

AMPAS has issued a new statement that basically says: “we will continue to say nothing.” they don’t even bother mentioning Hamdan Ballal — an Oscar winner!!! — by name.

“Dear Academy members,
At the heart of the Academy's mission is a commitment to honoring excellence in the motion picture arts and sciences and connecting the world through the power of cinema. We do this through our work on the Oscars, our exhibitions and programs, our preservation and
education efforts, and so much more. We believe deeply in the ability of film to illuminate, to provoke thought, and to bridge divides by offering a window into diverse human experiences.”

One of the co-directors of NO OTHER LAND, Hamdan Ballal was beaten by Israeli settlers and seized by Israeli soldiers from the ambulance Ballal called, per co-director Yuval Abraham. No one knows where Ballal is. (Ballal is second from right in the below photo.)

Post by Yuval Abraham, announcing what has been done to Hamdan Ballal. NO OTHER LAND directors.

Truly one of the best essays I’ve read in a while on how Netflix and the streaming model have changed film and television for the worse. Netflix sold investors, reporters, and the public a fantasy that’s not only eroding the film business, but doing its part to degrade film as a cultural medium.

I have an essay about how Netflix destroyed the movies in the new issue of @nplusonemag.com. Read it online and in print! www.nplusonemag.com/issue-49/ess...
