What you are seeing in math right now is a consequence of the jagged frontier, and a precursor of what is to come in other professions. Yes, mathematicians do math, but they also have other tasks they view as important (mentor students, maintain a community, safeguard the future) that AI can't do.

"At this very moment, we have an emerging alien—and uncontrollable—intelligence that bears scrutiny" Why do pple keep saying the models are "uncontrollable"? Any of them could be put in an unhackable sandbox--these exist! Any of these companies could shut any of these models off at any time.
