Just finished reading a book called 'The Barefaced Messiah' about L. Ron Hubbard. Conclusion: Scientology was created by a lunatic and conman. It's unbelievable people still faithfully follow that crazy creep's teachings. Pap for the feeble-minded, including Tom Cruise.

Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words

Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"

All of what @moryan.bsky.social says here and also the additional thought that in the current exceptionally shitty climate there's the wager that not only do some people just not care about awful behavior, some people (mostly dudes) valorize it. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/02/o...

This is ridiculously scary. Yes, we are currently talking about ballrooms and reflecting pools and inflation and Iran and Venezuela and Epstein and crypto grift and the moral rot of the GOP. But all that is going to be forgotten soon. Shit is about to get real, as they say.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Japanese engineers have developed a new method to recover 90% of lithium from used electric vehicle batteries by swapping standard sodium hydroxide for recovered lithium hydroxide in the chemical refining process. In America, we are making it impossible to afford learning the skills to do this.

The TOS being so strict that they control you offsite is the problem; sites like Patreon and Kofi have offsite clauses too. The social criminalization of the suggestion that somewhere you might be doing nsfw is a problem. It's branding a person as obscene and we need consumers to stand up for us

a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...

Three years ago, our reporter received an envelope with no return address. Inside was a flash drive containing tens of thousands of files: years of secretly recorded conversations, private militia chat logs and videos sent by a man named John Williams. (Published Jan. 2025)

A Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias. This Is What He Found.

My #review of An Oresteia, trans. Anne Carson, is now live! Really enjoyed reading these plays, but also thought that Carson's translation flattened any tonal and stylistic differences between the playwrights. Great to read post-Nolan's Odyssey. #bookreview #classics #booksky 💙📚 Full review here:

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. If some lady handed me a free sword I'd still take it though.

Yes lockdown was really tough for kids. Lots of those kids are teenagers now so maybe as a thank you our establishments could stop deliberately making even more things worse for them due to a weird systemic hatred of our own youth
