There's an OMB rule change that would require political oversight of scientific grants, and could pull any that don't "reflect presidential priorities" Another country has tried this before! It was the USSR and it was called Lysenkoism. By @thsaey.bsky.social www.sciencenews.org/article/omb-...

For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

I am sure that all the astronauts in the newly announced Artemis crew are eminently qualified and I don't in any way wish to detract from their accomplishments but I think it would have been a nice progression if the crews of each of the five Artemis missions included more women than the one before.

This is a worthwhile thread. Science funding in inherently political but that does not mean that careful factual analysis, as depoliticized as possible, should not be the guiding force.

Over the last few days, there has been a lot of discussion about the proposed regulation to increase political oversight of grantmaking. Some have argued this represents increased politicization of science. As someone who studies the politics of science, I think that's the wrong argument to make. 🧵
