I have a new picture book coming out in September, one that is very personal and means so much to me. Any librarians heading to Chicago for #ALAAC26 - you can stop by the Macmillan Booth #2525 to grab a galley of REBECCA. Words by me, art by the incomparable Sydney Smith. @mackidssl.bsky.social
Our Executive Director Mary's staff pick this month is @katebeaton.bsky.social & Sydney Smith's REBECCA, a breathtaking picture book about love, loss, and the life that blooms after sorrow❤️ tinyurl.com/37rard5j #edusky #newbooks
Future dystopian sci-fi has imagined things like nuclear wastelands, sure. Totalitarian oppression, climate catastrophe, sure. But rarely has it imagined today's real horror of AI making stupid and annoying people 100x worse.
Funding cuts to the Arts here in Nova Scotia have hurt many institutions I care deeply about. Conundrum comics @conundrumpress.bsky.social is one of those very special small publishers who fill in the gaps necessary for Canada to own its place of pride as a producer of great comic artists.

Why should any of us believe in the economic vision of a Tim Houston Nova Scotia government that had a historic, anomalous surplus and went RalphBucks with it.
How about being at all concerned about racists burning down the Mi’kmaw encampment on Hunters Mountain in the middle of the night when people could have been sleeping there instead of dreaming about …impounding Mi’kmaw property yourselves www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Comics retailing legend Greg Ketter standing up to ICE in Minneapolis. Yes, that's tear gas. He's 70 years old.
Greg Ketter, founder/owner of DreamHaven Books & Comics, Winner of the Will Eisner Spirit of Retail Award, 1999. As Greg has said here, the store's site has crashed from the traffic/flood of orders. But a GofundMe is still live to help with the store's renovation. www.gofundme.com/f/dreamhaven...

Carney going Pearson-ish on the world stage, that is an interesting one to think on
Yesterday was a great day to have a stamp unveiled by Canada Post! Rural places like mine depend so much on CP, we support the workers, and I’m honoured to be in this 2nd graphic novel collection with 5 others! 📬 www.instagram.com/p/DRTQlk4jG9...

I have been on media almost everywhere (locally) but here about this- let me give you an update about our work to protect a public park, an ecologically significant beach area, from being developed into a golf course.
Hello! This is an important one, so it won’t be the last time I post it. The Land Defenders on Hunters Mountain are gearing up for winter. They are resolute. But they need supplies, they are winterizing the cabins they built, there is food and firewood and gas for generators needed.
wow, the Daily Mail! Unexpected. They do like the drama though, they like the tea www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...
Fury over plans to turn gorgeous coastline into expensive golf club

On the radio today, I was a guest of the Todd Veinotte show. You can hear me at the 37 minute mark, talking about what's going on here. Thanks to this show for the call, and for the conversation. halifax.citynews.ca/podcasts/the...

The issue of West Mabou Beach Provincial Park is important to the entirety of Nova Scotia because handing it over to create a golf course would set a precedent for all protected land in the province. If they can do it here, they will do it anywhere. Comments on this: www.youtube.com/live/RP1xHzB...

Here is what I said. I am proud to be a Cape Bretoner, a Nova Scotian, a Canadian. And I am with the Mi’kmaw land defenders on Hunters Mountain. (1)
On opening night of the Vancouver Writer’s FestivaI, I was with seven other authors where we were given the prompt to talk about being a Canadian now under this new pressure from tariffs and talks of annexation by the US. Everyone spoke powerfully. (Cont’d)
I dug a bit into Cabot’s dealings with the Florida gov over state parkland last year. What I read should be a warning to Nova Scotians. In short, secrecy, money and contempt for the public. The post was to inform my local community on fb, but here it is with links: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/37x8c...
