NEW: buried in anthropic's hefty ipo documents released yesterday is an interesting admission: the company's increasing reliance on dirty gas to power its data centers is actually exposing it to financial risk wrote about it for @wired.com www.wired.com/story/anthro...

Anthropic Flags Gas Supply as One of Its Biggest Near-Term Risks

The data center buildout could cause a massive increase in gas prices as companies scramble for limited supplies and infrastructure fails to meet demand.

The Nova Scotia NDP scolding MLA Paul Wozney just seems like a perfect example of the "be kind" tropes we see all the time. I always say when people say "be kind" what they really mean is "be quiet." The Nova Scotia NDP want us to "be kind/quiet." Taking to the streets is not violence.

You can read the text of the Mark Carney's bill C-39 online at www.parl.ca/DocumentView... Anyone doing so will notice, even if digging no deeper than the summary, that the bill gives specific officials unilateral power over project approvals instead of a credible impact assessment process. 🧵1/

Nova Scotia’s new licence plate should not read ‘Canada’s’ but ‘Claude’s Ocean Playground.’ Trent Vichie, Trump-supporting New York resident and CEO of EverWind, says it’s good to build a data centre complex for Anthropic in NS and ‘not across the border.’ Loony times. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

A massive data centre to provide computing power for artificial intelligence is under pre-construction just outside a town on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Reporters @joanbaxter.bsky.social and @dartjenhen.bsky.social on being thrown out of today's EverWind data centre announcement. "You are trespassing, and if I have to call the police right now, I will.” (Jennifer) Henderson quietly responded, “That’s pretty heavy.” No paywall on this one.

Claire Parsons of EverWind to @joanbaxter.bsky.social at the AI data centre announcement today: “You are trespassing. You are trespassing,” she said. “Please get off our property. You are trespassing.” “You’re breaking Transport Canada regulations.”

It’s hard enough for cities in Canada to do smarter things given how often bad city leaders hurt their own cities. But it’s extra infuriating watching awful provincial premiers sabotaging cities by ripping out good things they FINALLY managed to achieve. Premiers should not have that power, period.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social · 3w ago

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…” One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

today's essential read for all Canadians. “Human rights and respect for constitutionally protected Aboriginal rights and title, in addition to Indigenous Peoples’ right to self-determination, must not be spun as inconveniences to Canada’s economic aspirations,”

Whose Nation Is Being Built?

Carney’s first “national interest” project is an oil pipeline through Indigenous territories. Consent was not part of the announcement.

Jesse Brown apparently has time to criticize everyone except the unhinged lunatic in the National Post invoking the same rhetoric as violent religious extremists against Avi Lewis

Jesse Brown • @JesseBrown • 2h

This is a complete misrepresentation, nothing Goldstein wrote remotely endorses violence against Lewis.
The suggestion that the real problem in Canada is violence from Jews against the antizionists who incite massacres against us is a moral inversion with no basis in fact.Jesse Brown

A whole piece about how the National Post called for violence against Avi Lewis without a single quote in which the National Post called for violence against Avi Lewis.
Because it never happened.

Carney's first-ever project designated as being in the “national interest" is...a crude oil pipeline. That means the oil pipeline can bulldoze past environmental laws, impact assessments, and Indigenous consultation. It can also kill all of Vancouver's orcas. Here's what you need to know:
