Jimmy was the first comedian I ever saw live. I suppose I was about 14. It was "at the end of a pier". I'd never given any thought before to how much funnier something could be if it was shared in a crowd. A rising tide of near hysteria at the silliest of jokes....

Sadly, there will be no ‘more’. We are heartbroken at TPTV to hear that we have lost another dear friend of the channel, Jimmy Cricket. A very lovely and funny man who kept audiences in stiches when he appeared on stage at our festivals. A true comedy legend. Thanks for all the laughs Jimmy.

Nice to hear the voice of Simon Garfield on the radio (eulogising Juliet Gardiner on Last Word). Hardly ever hear him. I think so often about the book he edited, of Jean Lucey Pratt's journals, A Notable Woman. Such an ordinary but interesting life....
