Trying to decide if rewriting a story by changing perspective, tense, and some plot elements is enough to make it a distinct story that's okay to submit to places which rejected the original. Or if I'm just being stubborn. (That's been known to happen.)

Yes to the whole thread. Also, AI short story writing lacks an emotional center and gravitas. It's like listening to an uneducated blowhard at a party of fools: it goes on and on, sounding worldly and wise, but signifying nothing.

The actual piece here definitely deserves investigation and I'm a little baffled that it didn't raise red flags purely by human eyes.

Most of us can't see cops without mortal fear struck in us. White people take for granted they don't have to be scared of a cop. And when Black people see ourselves murdered, it's trauma for us.
