Knitters of the world, unite; we have pointy sticks and know how to use them! “How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flewn.” - Dr. Seuss

Another book in the time-space trend that's developed since I started using the 'show similar tab for books on Libby. This book is a stunner. Beautifully written, the plot unfolds slowly, and the sense of place in the novel is described vibrantly. It's rather eerie, but compelling.

We might not be in a technical recession, but people sure feel like they’re in one. Walmart may be the canary in the coal mine. Sales growth just hit its slowest pace in more than 6 years as consumers get squeezed by gas, groceries & debt. When folks start pulling back at Walmart, PAY ATTENTION.

#ShowMeYourKnits - Baby Stuff? Hats, of course, Baby Hats! Many patterns, almost any yarn for baby hats. Here is a baby, a blanket, and a bonnet.🧶 For a neighbor's baby who is a teenager this year. 🤷‍♀️ This is the same yarn, but the lighting difference between indoors and outdoors is noticeable.

Cutie pie baby Lucille thinking that this baby hat is rather big on her. Just wait, little one.

(Sadly, discontinued. RIP.)I'm getting ready for the baby shower, so I took some outdoor photos on the spring lawn of these beauties before wrapping them. Such glorious colors and transitions in this discontinued product line from Lion Brand yarns.

Duke Energy wants *their individual customers* to sign up for a $4/month "donation" to "Solar+Schools" that'll be charged on your monthly bill from Duke Power. What strange sorcery is this contrivance, and why is Duke Power doing this? Smh.

Page 1 of Duke Energy's email RE: their Solar+Schools program.
You, too, can opt in to having Duke Energy add $4/month to your bill, so that they, the corporation, can make donations to this environmental program.
Who doesn't love solar power and kids Schools? No one.
Who is wondering why "... Duke Energy does not administer the program, and does not control or verify NC Green Power's program information," was necessary to include in the announcement? Everyone.

Cui bono, Duke Energy? Is it a tax deductible donation for the customer or for Duke Energy corporation?
It smells fishy.A second continuation of Page 1 of Duke Energy's email RE: their Solar+Schools program.
This shows statistics on environmental benefits.
Maybe, but, remember Duke Energy "... does not control or verify NC GreenPower's program information."

So, believe it, maybe?A third continuation of Page 1 of Duke Energy's email RE: their Solar+Schools program.

OK, but anyone who wants to make a contribution to NC GreenPower's program can do it directly and tax the take donation on their return, amirite?

The vandalism and desecration of the White House isn't just vanity and it's not trivial. It's caesarism, as in literally what Julius Caesar did to the symbolic architecture of civic republicanism. Our national iconography matters and allowing the disfiguring of it to persist is a substantive harm.

AP has called Tuesday's special election in a Pennsylvania state House district for Democrat Brandon Dukes. This is a FLIP for Dems. Their 6th so far in 2026 (and in the reddest district so far, this one was +18% Trump), and their 31st since January 2025. The GOP has flipped 0 seat in that period.

Please note this pie chart shows "Trump Nat'l Debt Increase" in Red, and *All Other US Presidents, Republicans & Democrats," in Blue, *for the entire 250 years of our nation.* Comparing six years of Trump adding to our National Debt, with all 44 of the other presidents combined.

Again: Republicans never really cared about the debt. They just want to make sure we send the money to their donors, not the working class.

A 3,400 year-old Egyptian glass kohl tube and applicator! ✨ It belonged to a woman named Merit, and was part of her beauty case. Glass was a luxury material at that time, making this a precious possession. From Merit’s tomb (TT8), Deir el-Medina. 📷 Museo Egizio, Turin #Archaeology

The Museo Egizio photo shows a small deep cobalt-blue glass kohl tube standing on a grey display surface. It contains a dark wooden applicator stick, of which only half can be seen. The main body of the blue glass tube is decorated with white and yellow festoons (a repeated curved motif like a garland). The festoons were created by wrapping white and yellow glass rods around the surface of the tube while it was still hot, and dragging them with a pointed tool across the surface to produce the festoon pattern. The top of the glass tube widens to look like an open petalled flower with blue petals edged with yellow arranged around the neck of the tube. The bottom of the container also widens slightly to form a base to stand on. This glass container held kohl, a dark cosmetic made from soot, fat, and antimony, which was applied to the eyelids and eyelashes with the applicator stick.

This kohl tube belonged to Merit. It was found in her makeup box, inside her tomb (TT8) at Deir el-Medina, dated 1425–1353 BC, 18th Dynasty. It was excavated by Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli in 1906.

🔥Senator @ossoff.senate.gov : “There’s something uniquely despicable about lying 🇺🇸 into war… and while sailors on the Lincoln fight his war, Trump sleeps through meetings, golfs, trades stocks… he wants to build his ballroom & fly with Natalie 👀 on their apparently defenseless flying palace.”

I don't care who disagrees because it needs to be said: there's no reason a politician should have a better healthcare plan than a combat veteran who put their life on the line for their country.

#ShowMeYourKnits - Stripes! The most unusual blanket I've ever knit is Lizard Ridge, from Laura Aylor. This takes short rows on a wild ride. It was knit in mystery yarn, from a friend. It was made for a friend of mine with a long-term illness, to her requirements. She loved it. RIP, Em. Miss you.

The Lizard Ridge blanket from Laura Aylor is draped over a privacy fence. The field yarn is a cream colored cotton. The contrasting "bubbles" are a blue, aqua, and beige cotton/silk space-dyed yarn. It was gifted to me with no ball bands.
I knit it for a friend who loved my blankets, but found them "too hot" due to Rx medication for cancer. She was thrilled with her "beachy blanket," as she called it.A close-up of a handknit blanket, showing the details of the space-dyed yarn in blue, aqua, and beige. The bubbles are created using the short row technique, which doubles back on itself several times over 9 stitches, and decreases one stitch at the end with every short-row pass.
(It is not a fast technique.)My friend loved this blanket so much!
She took it to her infusion appointments and her quarterly girlfriend weekends with the scrapbook club. Shown here, packed on her rolling trolley, along with her weekend allotment of Dr. Pepper.

You’ve got to be shitting me. We’re spending $20 MILLION of our tax dollars on stun gloves. And we’re supposed to pretend this will cut down on lethal force AND that ICE has good judgment? This is going to lead to more abuse, not less.

Two questions: 1. Are taser gloves covered by the Second Amendment? 2. If so, can I wear a pair to my next protest action? You know, just to protect myself against a tyrannical government.
