There are a lot of problems with moving the US to a Westminster system (chiefly the need for a new constitutional convention that would require the participation of [gestures widely]). But the “they want to abolish the presidency” panic is genuinely funny. Like … have you seen the presidency?

I’ve seen the left half of this floating around in Boomer/X chud spaces. The right part was obviously added by AI. Which, in toto, makes it perhaps the greatest illustration of the centrist mindset I’ve ever seen.

Side note here but it is so annoying that the frame is once again “they risk being hypocrites.” The problem with overlooking violent abuse in your caucus is not hypocrisy! Consistently and openly supporting abuse would be even worse!

a republican congressman allegedly broke his two-year-old daughter's collarbone and he somehow hasn't been run out of congress. there really is no bridge too far for these ghouls.

Had a fascinating convo on TikTok tonight. Started with some white conservatives fearmongering about Muslims and asking how anyone could support democratic socialism. Ended with them all talking about their experiences growing up on food stamps and saying money needed to be redistributed to schools.

Most journalists are skeptical of official culpability at first but pounce like gleeful wolves once someone tells them it’s okay to do so. Scientists can also be guilty of the former but are used to falsifying hypotheses, and once this one turned up empty they largely moved on. Is my take.

It's interesting how the media immediately went to "lab leak is crank" while scientists largely started with "damn, could be true." And those positions completely flipped. Of course the scientists flipped for good reasons. The journalists, not so much.
