Sharing my research and recs for Substack alternatives! I see a lot of rants about Substack but not actual breakdowns of good, tested alternatives. Plus the alternatives are great, and are not trying to nag you into joining their social network. blog.byjasonli.com/finding-a-bu...

Yes to this thread! Notetakers aren't stenographers. You must metabolize the meeting (and restructure content logically vs chronologically) for *ease of reference and accountability.* e.g. Provide context; record decisions made + reasoning; create a tasklist with those responsible + deadlines, etc.
I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

"I wanted my writing to become like flogging. And make people's hearts full of pain." - Medya, Children of Fire
I'm on a roll with these double bills. Two books about Kurdistan.
Saw someone post about this novel on Discord and I found a draft review I wrote (it's just missing an intro summary but maybe it'll pique your interest more without one...)
This disturbing novel accurately captures a subject who is both disassociated from and hyper present in their own body, both alarmingly passive and in constant motion, deeply disorganized and chaotic
New Friend: You're kind of like... an onion! Kawai: Don't I know it. NF: It's because you have so many layers! K: No, it's because I'm good at making people cry.

Trying to start a discord group for women and non-binary writers of speculative (or just kind of strange in all genres) fiction. So we can encourage each other, etc. On the ground floor right now. If you want in, let me know, and I'll send you the link!
Since The Odyssey is trending, RPing this.
I feel like most N.Americans have forgotten the advantages that come with going unseen. In other cultures, keeping things under wraps was/is understood as an adept way to conduct yourself, certainly wiser than laying your cards on the table for the benefit of having total randos like them.
