I’m taking a workshop this weekend and I’m so excited to learn things and so terrified of meeting new people. But this was one of my goals for 40, to find opportunities to make new friends. I feel like I need a pep talk from my nephew.

The hill I will die on: Women say "like," "um," and "err," so frequently, because when there is the slightest pause in their speech, they are interrupted by men, and don't get the floor back to speak.🤷🏿‍♂️ So people that are frequently interrupted tend to use more verbal fillers. Let women speak.

The hill I will die on: I really don’t like ‘like’ – or other imprecise and redundant speech | Louis de Bernières

you’re gonna make it. no funny goth/horror similes no crafty pop culture tie in no zingy last line just the fact that you are going to make it you are enough if you left us there would be a deficit in the universe you are not the only person who struggles with believing this

I'm very lucky that @minimus.io considers the work I do for Kubernetes to be part of my job. That isn't true for most maintainers. Projects are failing or suffering attacks because of a lack of contributors from companies built on top of them, and that's *everyone's* problem. dev.to/katcosgrove/...

Listening to interviews with a bunch of tech policy people and apparently the term AI now means basically anything a computer does without close supervision by a human. Because AI is just a marketing term that tech companies say means whatever they want.

New ergonomic pillow means I’m sleeping better and waking with more energy. Which means I’m not falling into the “can’t get myself to take meds” trap. Which means I’m staying energized all day. Except now it’s 1:30am and I’m still wide awake knitting like it’s my job or something.

We recently went to an improv comedy show with a very clear “NO HECKLING” rule. One of the players exited a scene saying “I’m going to work on my macrame!” (Extra funny as he was an older dude) He returned mumbling “I dropped a stitch” Reader, I nearly got kicked out.

I’m no stranger to work-related stress nightmares, but the ones I was having last night were so incredibly chaotic that at no point did I believe I wasn’t in a dream. Which really took the bite out of the stress aspect. Now I feel like there’s nothing weirder this week can throw at me.

I thought about why I’ve been pushing back on stolen midterm fears. What’s the harm of worry, even if it doesn’t materialize? It’s this. The regime has less capacity than it’d like, and tries to make up the difference with bluster. If people act as if it’s true, that grants the regime more power.
