James makes fighting socialism the center of his victory speech: "Michigan is on fire. I’ve always run toward the fire. This November, the choice will be clear. We offer freedom, they offer socialism. We offer change, they offer control. We offer common sense, they offer crazy."
AP calls it for John James - it's officially Benson vs. James in November.

The Democratic primary is already called by AP. Jocelyn Benson will head to the ballot in November, currently holding a nearly 70-point lead over Chris Swanson.
Polls close in Michigan in under a half hour (except for 4 U.P. counties) - I’ll be spending the night down in metro Detroit at watch parties for Perry Johnson and John James in the GOP gubernatorial primary.
Early (and I cannot emphasize enough, VERY early) results show James up with a significant lead over Johnson. Mike Cox and Aric Nesbitt are still on the ballot, despite both dropping out. Cox dropped out well into the absentee voting period and right now has double-digit support.

DPD is asking for over $2 million for a nine-month extension to its ShotSpotter contract, which is set to expire at the end of the month. Council members don't seem convinced. Extension is requested as the city is considering proposals for other long-term options for gunshot detection tech.
The city’s current contract for the technology, which was signed in 2022 and is set to expire at the end of June, is for $7 million — a price tag that advocates and city lawmakers alike have raised concerns over. Story by @kdailey.bsky.social michiganadvance.com/2026/06/05/p...
