In collaboration with Nature, I investigated the impact of the Trump administration on US science one year after its return to office. More than 7800 research grants were cancelled or frozen, affecting ~25000 scientists and research staff and resulting in an ~US$32 billion in lost research funding.

1/4 What do fungal networks sound like? Have a listen! This week’s @nature.com cover is a multi-sensory spectacular, complete with the fascinating, almost wet sound of fungal networks spreading, recorded by artist @cosmosheldrake.bsky.social in an Araucaria forest on the side of a volcano Chile.
1/4 The case for false color. This week’s @nature.com cover shows exciting results from the asteroid Bennu, as seen in these pointy purple sodium salts! www.nature.com/articles/s41... Why did we use false colour? 🧪🎨
The sheer elegance of this dinosaur vomit must be celebrated! Thanks to artist Marcin Ambrozik for perfecting it on this week's cover, to go with this paper on fossilized poo and vomit www.nature.com/articles/s41... (Lacked the courage to ask for more poo, @endofthepier.bsky.social!) #sciart #art
Hello @bsky.app! I'll start by thanking this platform for not training AI on our goods. This is why I stopped posting on X last year, and will pick up where I left off, by explaining why Nature does not allow gen AI images and video in our publications #sciart #art 🧪🎨🦋 www.nature.com/articles/d41...
