Rewilding isn't a side project of the climate fight. It is the fight. This great man makes the case plainly: "the rewilding of the world will suck enormous amounts of carbon from the air and lock it away in expanding wilderness.” That's not a hope, it's an observed pattern across ecosystems.
A small multi-tiered waterfall found whilst exploring some temperate rainforest fragments on the west coast of Scotland in late May. The persistent rain made for perfect conditions. . #scotlandwaterfall #celticrainforest
Sometimes the light makes it feel like you’re going to be beamed up into a UFO!
Waterlogged silver birch trees in the Caledonian forest. The higher water level made for a great opportunity to catch them reflecting #naturephotography #landscapephotography
Down in Ardnamurchan last week, and amongst other delights, was looking at the Atlantic oak woods that stretch from Strontian to Glenborrodale along the sides of Loch Sunart, Scotland's rainforest. If you've not been, it's something to put on your to-do list. Pretty spectacular.
It was nice to get out with the camera again at the weekend out west. The greens were looking fresh in this section of Atlantic rainforest. I liked the ivy on this particular oak. The midges were horrific - they are not supposed to arrive before June. . #scottishhighlands #oakwoodland
Patagonia's iconic mountains usually take the limelight, but they are surrounded by endless, stunning alpine ranges. A forgotten, majestic peak, covered in fresh snow, glows red in the first light of day. #bluesky #photography #landscape #mountains #nature #landscapephotography #naturephotography
An expansive view across the Caledonian forest towards the mountains of Kintail. The fresh snow helped the pine snag stand out against the background trees. . . #landscapephotography #scottishhighlands
An exciting time of year when the woodlands burst into life. Fresh greens on a young silver birch at the weekend.
A shapely Scots pine enduring the elements in the Caledonian forest. 2025
Frost encrusted Scots pine trees emerging from the morning fog in Scotlands Caledonian forest. A rare morning that was so enjoyable to experience. . #scotland #highlands
Scots pine silhouette in the Caledonian forest. The patches of melting snow on the hill behind made for an interesting and unusual backdrop (I think so anyway!). . #nativewoodland #naturephotography
An ephemeral moment in Scotland’s Caledonian forest. Fog, light and crepuscular rays one of my favourite combinations #naturephotography
A seasonal quadriptych taken in a photogenic birch woodland over the last 2 years. Winter was captured during an exceptionally cold snap. Really interesting how green spring is compared to summer. #rephotography #scotland #woodlandphotography
A frozen lochan’s edge in the Cairngorms during the cold snap at the end of December. #scotland #highlands

I’ve enjoyed photographing the rare native aspen this year. They are often vibrant yellow in early autumn, although this tree transitioned through a beautiful mix of colours. #populustremula #aspen #scotland
Sometimes, you find a scene that makes you grin! The pop of yellow colour from the birches, the wisps of lingering mist, the texture in the bark of the pines. www.AndyMacD.co.uk #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography #Autumn #fineart #Scotland #nature #Woodland #trees #loch #lake #mist
Found an old photo of one of my favourite mushroom sightings - a magpie inkcap :) Haven’t seen any this year (or since); this was taken in a nearby woodland on this day in 2017. #mushrooms
